Eurovision 2022

Let's talk just for fun! :3. Did you watch Eurovision yesterday? Let's be honest, Ukraine won just because they're in war -_-.

Best song was Spain! An unfair third place, we deserved the victory! My country finally brings an awesome booty- I mean song lol, but Europe voted for Ukraine... It's even unfair for UK, second place.

Well... typical from this music festival. What do you think? Chanel deserved the victory?

A war is no joking matter, you know... It is natural to support your own country in any contest, but here it is more than just about music. Allowing Ukraine to win (which was actually a win by a fan/popular vote, so couldn't have been "rigged") sends a strong message of international support as well as implies that Ukraine will most likely host Eurovision 2023. Things like that help reinforce the desire and support for the Ukraine-EU integration as well as show the confidence of Europe in the upcoming victory of the Ukrainian defenders.

Besides, the song was rather nice too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8Z51no1TD0

I don't think that politics must change a result in a music competition. Ukraine didn't win for a good song, only won for the war. In Eurovision is not allowed politics. I just say... We mustn't mix wars and politics with competitions. It's unfair. You can support in this war to Ukraine, but don't condition voting.

1. Politics and diplomacy stop when war begins. Politics are things like gender and racial equality, human rights, etc. War is far more serious and dire.
2. This year's Eurovision was already marred by "politics" ever since russia was banned from participating as an aggressor country, so you can't really blame Ukraine for bringing in "politics". If anything, this too is russia's fault, as without them none of this would be happening.
3. Once again, talk to the people, since it was their vote that gave Ukraine victory, not a jury bias like with Oscars and pretty much any other "fair and independent" "artistic" competition out there.

I get the frustration, I really do, but considering everything that's been going on, it was to be expected and shouldn't be held against any country, nation, or group of people. Exceptional circumstances give rise to exceptional events, things happen! :)

I know what you mean, but anyways wars are part of politics, something ilegal. Do you know that a country (I don't remember which one) was fined for bringing a Palestine flag? You can't use politics and wars.

1- Politics and wars condition votes
2- They can manipulate to the population
3- Exactly this is called geopolitics

If you vote a country just because they're suffering a an invasion, and not for its song in the festival, you're already using politics to condition people's voting.

We need to divide politics, conflicts, wars, etc, from competitions in every places or situations like sports, races, tournaments, etc etc.

Unless you polled the popular vote this is a very weird thing to say and bring up so insistently.

I saw the Tuesday semifinals and then Saturday. I was mostly looking forward to Lithuania, Norway and UK from the getgo and I was surprised by Alabania, Austria, Denmark and Greece, (not to mention Armenia in the finals was the first performance that made me "perk up" as everyone else seemed a little more reserved and nervous comparatively) and Ukraine knocked it out of the park for me personally not only visually but the song was just hypnotic to me. Listened to Stefania and Sentamentai like 4 times in a row each, along with Space Man.

If you wanna bring up politics people were speculating how Israel didnt make it out of semi-finals possibly because of the situation, but there weren't barred from eurovision this year wholesale so... *shrug* I didnt see their performance so I have no opinion.

Literally impossible, considering things as basic as expression of identity and sexuality (even in the sense of a male and female perspective) are a political point of differences worldwide.

Hell, ALL OF US ON INKBUNNY are kinda a point of politics and being involved in such just by nature of the artwork we enjoy.

For what its worth, I'm not upset with you or anything even if I sound like I am, I'm just pointing out it's rather disconcerting to see you pushing that point a little hard. The last Eurovision I saw live was Austria winning with Conchita Wurst in 2014, and people claimed it was because she was nonbinary and came up with the "politics" statement again. Just a parallel I observed I suppose.

We should never separate politics from our lives, because politics ARE our lives!

Just look at russia: people there preach and follow exactly what you are claiming here, that politics are something separate and foreign to them, something they don't want to deal with in any aspect of their lives, that they are "outside of politics". And where did it get them? Now they live in an autocratic dictatorship where a human life is worthless, citizens have zero rights, and people like us are considered mentally sick and outcasts as they only recognize "traditional" values of the old. And I am not even talking about their "external politics", i.e. numerous wars and genocides in the last 20 years alone, coupled with mass propaganda that goes unopposed because people don't deem it important, resulting in an entire nation that wishes nothing but death to every last westerner.

This should be a cautionary tale for all of us: if you are not interested in politics and consider yourself above/outside of this field, even going as far as preaching that others should do the same, then eventually politics WILL force their way into your life by completely f*cking it up >_>

Ukraine had an undeniable banger of a song and had it not been for popular vote they wouldn't have gotten even in top 3
