Check your PC for the DNSChanger virus!

A public service announcement from Beefalo!

If you're infected with the DNSChanger virus and haven't removed it, you could lose the ability to access the Internet on July 9th when the FBI's "safety net" DNS servers go offline.

More info, including ways to check for the virus: http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/dnschanger.asp

Scanning my CPU with Microsoft Essentials to see if I got it. I'm quite sure I don't got the virus!

You can visit http://www.dns-ok.us/ to quickly see if your computer is infected with this virus or not.

Mainly I've posted this journal in case there are a few who still haven't scanned their computers, so they wouldn't be in the dark on Monday.

Thanks Beefalo! I checked the link and my computer is green. But I think I'll run an antivirus scan anyway. :)

I had checked this a while ago, but it's good to know that I'm still green!

That's one reason I started my own private DNS server! :)
(Tired of Qwest being nosy and listening in on where I go, too!)

I have a Mac, so this doesn't concern me.  Sorry, Beef. :-(

Unless...the virus also affects Macs?

There is/was indeed a Mac variant floating around. As long as you keep your antivirus up to date and don't click on unfamiliar downloads, you should be safe.

I...don't have an antivirus.  I didn't think I needed one since Mac viruses are near impossible to make from what I've heard. ;-_-

It used to be that way for the longest time, but not anymore since Macs switched over to Intel CPUs and virus writers are always looking for targets.

You're serious?  That fucking blows.  We've already invested in something that'll let us play Windows games on our iMac (CrossOver and Winery), but now we have to get virus protection too?  You gotta be shitting me.

Still, the number of viruses targeting Windows PCs far outnumber those targeting Macs so I wouldn't freak out a lot.
