SS250 Reviews: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

Okay.  This is gonna be a fairly short one, because I don't want to give too many spoilers... and I was up until 3:30 last night going out to SEE this movie, and right now I'm seeing double and hearing voices telling me to burn things.

Sam Raimi should be ashamed of himself for ever having ATTEMPTED to make a Spider-Man movie compared to this.  This movie is EVERYTHING we always wanted.  In Andrew Garfield We have a Spidey who is NOT mopey, who doesn't have stupid organic webbing, who is played as the scientific genius he is rather than as a "normal kid..."

...and most importantly, a Spidey who is F***ING HILARIOUS!!!!  Nothing against Tobey Maguire, but the guy couldn't be funny or snarky if his life depended on it!!!

I am an admitted Mary-Jane Watson/Peter Parker shipper and I view One More Day as the greatest crime commited on a comic book public (at least until the DC Reboot happened)... but she doesn't appear in the film.  Instead we get Gwen Stacy, played by Emma Stone, who I ADORE and will see in ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING and EVERYTHING she is in.  No spoilers here, but the inevitable sequel is NOT gonna end well for her.

Complaints?  Only two, and both are minimal compared to how GOOD this is.  First?  They never ONCE say "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility."  Sure, they skirt around the topics of power and responsibility but they never actually say the darned line!!!  HOW DO YOU MAKE A SPIDER-MAN MOVIE WITHOUT SAYING THAT LINE?! O_O;;;

Second?  I have a near-encyclopedic knowledge of comics, due to a misspent youth of being a tomboy.  And...  The Lizard is one of Spidey's weakest villains, and could not possibly be that much of a threat to him under ANY circumstances, including this film.  Yes, when watching it, he's scary and credible... but there are a DOZEN other villains that would have been BETTER.  Doc Ock to name one...  The Vulture...  Electro...  Hell, if you wanted to tap into post OMD content, Mister Negative....  But not the Lizard.

SS250's Final Verdict:  The Spider-Man movie the fans wanted... The Spider-Man movie the fans deserved... WHEN IS THE F***ING SEQUEL COMING OUT?! O_O,    A++

Actually the Lizard was indeed a threat. There was the time when he forged an army with mutated lizards and became their leader...not to mention he is super strong. I say that makes him a threat. Now a better villian would have been Green Goblin or even Venom and Carnage.

No spoiler here: Green Goblin couldn't be used for this movie, because he's the villain of the sequel.  Venom or Carnage wouldn't do because this is a reboot and they need to give Spidey an ORIGIN before screwing with the symbiotes.

Actually, reading back on the old comics, Lizard was on par with Venom for a major villain.

Cause ya know, being bitten by a radioactive spider gives you super powers, super climbing skills, sixth sense, the lot. But organic spider webbing? NO!! That's just pushing the fantast, we need realism in a story of a kid whog ets super powers froma  radioactive spider bite.

Sorry, but I just never got that complain, original comics or otherwise. If it can give him all thats tuff, why not unlimited organic webbing?

Because technically, if he had organic webbing, he'd be shooting it from his butt, not his wrists.  Besides, the web-fluid is cooler, because it gives him options that the organic webbing doesn't...  Like adding chemicals to the webbing to achieve different effects, or creating objects like shields or even a hang-glider out of it.  Also... It's kinda gross. ^^;

"Because technically" he'd be dead.

Regarding the villain, do you really want to throw an evil, eight-armed psychopathic genius at a first-time superhero in spandex? Or do you want him to start out with someone a little more... "Beginner's Luck"?

Yeah, admittedly, I've been thinking about it for a bit and the Lizard is a better choice... but still.  It seems too... small-scale.
