A thought occurs...

Have you ever found the appeal in a character that's explicitly homely?  I've been dwelling on this question lately, and once I get my laptop running again, I plan to explore the concept of "loveably gonky" with a new member of the Woodland cast.  Stay tuned!

You mean like Abe from the Oddworld games? My sister thought he was ugly at first but really grew to like him after awhile.

I actually always thought Gollum portrayed in the Rankin-Bass Hobbit and Return of the King cartoons was kind of cute in a homely way. I kind of feel like they wanted him to be scary without it being too inappropriate for a kids' show but it kind of just made me feel pity for him. I suppose that would fit for the character anyway.

You guys have the right idea, but those are some pretty extreme examples!  You'll see what I mean when my laptop is running again.
