Laid off from work in July, now full time artist post-Bronycon

Budgets cuts... they'd been warning me since last year and I saw several coworkers terminated and with the new semester coming up, well ... it was a bit sudden, but I should be okay for another month or so before the noose slowly starts tightening.

I could go into it, but I don't really feel like. My internal thoughts have just been a litany of things that could go wrong, but at the end of it, all I need to do is get better at organizing with a spreadsheet and an actual schedule.

Having to put a roof over one's head does do wonders for motivation and effort...

So, yeah, as I said before... more projects and commissions progress in July. Actually more time than I'd planned for, so I'll probably be doing dual streams sometimes, one for work as if it was my dayjob and then another later for play.

Sorry for the job cutting, but hope you're able to find something better and stable soon. Or hopefully commissions and other projects will help fill the financial gap. Good luck!

It's ironic, one of the first things companies tend to cut back on are the things that allow the business to function, like employee hours.  Sorta like an athlete cutting off their legs to try and run faster.

It's sad that Scott Adams often had the most accurate descriptions of the business world.

I have seen you do great animation work. Would you also do animation work for others (for money of course)?

I do, though animation is so demanding, I ask for payment on completion and I only take very special ones.

May I send you a PM about the subject then?

Nothing lost by trying, though at the moment, I still have my own projects taking center ground, as always. As money comes up short, I expect my priorities will shift.

Make sure you file for unemployment benefits. Good luck on your job search. =)

I will. Have you ever done it, is there certain things I should get before I leave?

I have done it, was on unemployment benefits for something like 7 months or so. The biggest thing is to make sure you read the material and understand what's required of you. Because if it's anything like here in Washington, they can 'audit' your paperwork at anytime and if you fail to prove you've been meeting their requirements they'll essentially sue you for every dime they gave you. Do not mess around, do not be lazy about it. You should be fine, though. =)

Alternatively, you could look into getting unemployment benefits.
I went through this not so long ago.

Well, shit.

Gonna send some work and money your way, then.  Good luck with unemployment.  You may also want to look into SSI.
