If I may, can I get some advice from my watchers? :>

So, Ive been thinking about this for some time now, and I wanted  to know what your thoughts were on if I tried doing subscribe star or patreon maybe? s:

But wait! I dont mean I want to lock my art behind a paywall! s: I want to keep doing what Im doing now but thought maybe there was something extra I could do maybe? s:

Ive never really had any money other than the bit I make from the occasional commission I accept and on occasions from supportive friends! Other than that Ive been just managing with my roommate and I feel I need to make a change and shouldnt just have my roommate as a crutch... All Ive really been ever to do has been cook and clean for them s: And I know some ppl would tell me that I should just get a real job... But thats a whole other mess that I dont exactly like talking about publicly ^^; Just know its not because Im too lazy to do that ;u;

But Ive always been kinda nervous about talking about these kinds of things because Im worried ppl would think of me poorly s; But maybe if I can open up to give it a chance? s:

So I was wondering maybe what you guys would suggest for me to do if I make a Patreon or a SubscribeStar!

A little of an idea I had was I wanted to eventually do animations, original comics, and show art that tends to be sketches or colored sketches that Ive never posted online! Just some different stuff that adds something more to what I usually do so I dont have to make my current content behind a paywall :> Was also thinking of doing really low priced teirs like making the 1st one only 1$ a month so its affordable :>

At least that is what I was thinking! But I wanted to know what you guys wanted for it so I can learn and make it catered to what my supporters would like ^^

I could really use some help figuring things out so, it would really be appreciated ;u; <3

it's a good idea if you want to get some money out of your art. If you don't want to stop posting your art publicly, you could always just give your followers the art a month early.

Good luck!

There's nothing wrong with wanting to make a little extra money for the work you do! I'd say to go for it if you'd like to. :3

Im glad ^u^ Even if just a little bit, it would be nice ^^ I mean, I expect things to be small from the start but Im hoping to grow the community do my best to also give back to my supporters in some special way that makes them happy ^^ Though, I probably am gonna finish the current comic commissions and such before I start! So I can at least make some content to add from the start ^^ Which I do have alot of sketches and stuff I could do already that I never posted ^^ But I still want some more exclusive stuff at the start :> Though Im not entirely sure how most ppl start! s: Always thought starting to be the hardest part ^^;

It makes sense. Since you don't want to do a paywall, perhaps subscribers get a 1-week early access to new comic pages and such? or maybe a few days, up to you.

Given you do some cub content, i'd recommend using subscribestar, I've heard Patreon has been rough on NSFW cub stuffs.

Yeah I was thinking about that too! Though, I always feel my art is kinda hit and miss just because Ive always been kinda all over the place and a bit of a mix bag of what I draw ^^; Heck, even with cub art I know some like Diaper stuff and others dont! So I was also thinking maybe I should try to focus down on my content I post! Though not sure what I should go about that exactly ^^;

What do you think?

I kinda like the variety. either way you have a super cute style which I like seeing. Ultimately, i'd just say draw what you want to.

A lot of artists use Patreon or Subscribestar, some even use both, however, you might have problems with Patreon as they are very strict with what you can post on there, I have seen other artists move to Subscribestar because they got banned from Patreon!

Artists usually post their artwork on those places usually a month before posting anywhere else so their supporters can see everything early and they usually do bonus content for each supporter tier as an additional thanks for the support ^_^

It's a good way to make a few extra bucks every month, some artists earn a full time living from Patreon or Subscribestar

Actually now that I think about it, that is a good way to make my content work for supporters and those who cant afford to do it! ^^ Though, if I may ask, What kind of thing would someone normal do as bonus content? :> Or, what about you personally? :> If you subscribed to someone what kind of bonus content would you like to see from someone you would subscribe to? :> If thats okay to ask! ^^ Would help me get to understand people better ^^

You're always welcome to ask questions and I will be happy to help as much as I can, just don't ask anything too personal ;P

Artists that create comics usually pick a random character from their comics and do a piece of artwork of that character for their bonus content, some will choose, for example, 4 characters and scenarios, their supports then vote for which character and scenario they want to see

Some artists actually offer bonus content as commissions, for example, everyone donating 10 bucks a month gets a free headshot of their character in whatever format the artist chooses, sketch or lineart, with or without colour and shading

Some artists give their supporters cameos in their comics as an additional thanks for their support

For me personally, if I was subscribed to someone, I would be happy with any artwork the artist posted as extra content because I'm not fussy ^_^

Oh no worries! ^^ I try not to be nosey with anything really personal! I wouldnt want to be rude! ^^ But if someone did want to talk to me I dont mind being a shoulder for someone to lean on if they need to ^^

Also those are all really good ideas! ^^ I'll definitely take note of those and will see what works best ^^

And thats good to know! ^^ It would make it less stressful! ^^ I hope others feel the same! ^^

I just remembered something else.....

I don't know if you do any art streams but some artists that do art streams also do private streams, usually weekly, fortnightly or monthly, just for their supporters ^_^
SoubiGlowheart
2 years, 5 months ago
I wouldnt mind doing that ^^ And have a cam when I can afford it :3 Or if I can at least chat while I draw ^^ Oh! Or maybe have a personal VTuber model for the streams :3 Probably would be better since It might be a problem for my roommate ^^; He might not want to be on camera X3

Very few artists bother with a webcam because people are usually just there to watch the artwork being created, also, using a microphone would mean viewers can hear everything your roommate gets up to..... >.<

A lot of artists stream their commissions so the commissioner can watch and approve each stage and ask for any changes while the artist is working on the artwork ^_^

Do you do any art streams or are you planning to start doing art streams? o.O

I see ^^; I was just watching brushking recently and he used a cam
^^; And I used to do art streams a really long time ago s:

And my roommate tends to be pretty quiet unless he is talking to me ^^; He usually has his headset on ^^;

If you ever do stream again, I will lurk in your streams as much as possible ^_^

Also, if you use a webcam, everyone will be able to see how cute you are :3
SoubiGlowheart

I'll keep that in mind! ^u^

And Thats sweet of you to say! ^u^ <3 I dont have the confidence in myself to think that way of myself but ppl tell me I really should! s: I was always too nervous and self conscious ;u; especially since it used to be stressful when I didnt want to make anyone sad having to choose someone since alot of ppl liked me ; ;

Some ppl though said I looked like Thor and my older brother looked like Loki before lol I told them we would be their bootleg versions if anything! lol Plus, Im too timid to be Thor ;w; But my older brother definitely fits Loki lol

Not having the confidence and being nervous makes things difficult but I know from my own experience that doing something, like streaming, on a regular basis will make your nervousness fade away and your confidence grow ^_^

There's no specific standard of what cute actually is so everyone is cute in their own special way :3

Also, if anyone claims you're ugly, just remember that they are just jealous because you look amazingly awesome :D
SoubiGlowheart
2 years, 5 months ago
Honestly I dont think anyone has ever called me outright ugly before! s: I think the worst I ever have been called was average being compared to the guy who called me that ^^; But he honestly was a very mean person in general ;u; So thats more a complement from him if anything XD Alot of ppl dislike him s: He was known among quite a few furs in california for being a jerk s: Which I could tell quite a few stories about him that I had trouble with >w>

But you are right! ^^ I would love to grow in confidence ^^ It would be nice to stream and chat with ppl watching ^^ I probably could have streamed the sketch I was doing today :3 Made a little Goodra Shota :3 Though I havent streamed in so long! s: Id need to figure things out how to set things up!

The two things I care about concerning Patreon and Subscribestar are paywalls, which I'm happy to hear you're not going to do, and becoming so wrapped up in Patreon that everything else is neglected, which usually means it's 10 times harder to get a commission, which is something I came across for weeks trying to find someone to do my latest commission, but also that some people's content starts getting stale because they're making art primarily for patreon and there's so much good stuff they don't allow.
SoubiGlowheart
2 years, 5 months ago
Yeah I want everyone to feel welcomed and like their part of the community either way ^^ Id honestly feel really bad if I made someone felt unwelcome or like I was just using ppl for money s; I never want ppl to think of me that way... s; I just want to work out the best solution to manage the bare minimum for me to manage myself ^^

I want everyone to feel welcome with my art ^^

Honestly, I think it's a good idea, and doesn't have to be a paywall at all.

I think probably the best model I've seen used is releasing things early on patreon / subscribestar / other service. Then, perhaps a fortnight later, release for more general audiences. Few people are going to bemoan having to wait when the art is free to view, folks that want to support or get early access can, and, yeah, it's not really pay walling at all.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do :)

Thank you very much! ^u^ I will do my best and hope things work out! ^^ If I can get just enough to take care of myself then Id be happy ^^ Also hope connecting a discord would help me become a more social part of the community ^^

It's a good Idea, but if you want to upload nsfw stuff I would recommend subscribestar. Patreon tends to warn and then ban people who uplad nsfw stuff there. It happened to some people I was watching there...
Subscribestar has fewer people since you can't use paypal. So each side has it's drawbacks.
Anyway, good luck and much succes with whatever you choose

Little late to the party here but

I think you're being too hard on yourself. If you're being basically the equivalent of a housewife when your roommate isn't even your romantic partner that's worth more than you think it is. Cause that does cost you time and effort and you do even put out commissions amidst that. Just because it's ""less work"" than a 'job' doesn't invalidate that contribution.
Do not put yourself up to any obligations you don't think you can handle.

The nice thing about patreon-like payment models is that you can set them up in a way that just supplements your life; remember that they are paying for access to whatever thing you make exclusive. You don't need to make yourself owe them anything. Many artists make "free" art per month part of their patreon package and that's a dangerous game to play when you realize it basically takes your commissions out of your control and puts them on a monthly basis.

One thing you could do is just set up a low priced model and give early access to your comic(s), a lot of folks do that and it works well. It doesn't inhibit your process, it doesn't obligate what you can and can't do in what you make, you just have to keep yourself willed to do it. Because they're not paying for you to make it, they're paying to see what you do make early. Remember that!

But at the end of the day don't feel obligated to monetize your hobbies if your life is stable. This culture of self-optimization is not normal. People often forget that work is supposed to be voluntary, something you do because you choose to help someone and they compensate you for the time you lost doing something to help them instead of your own hobbies or self-care. You already work for your friend by taking care of your home for the both of you; just because it benefits you too doesn't make it not work of its own. And they don't pay you because it's done out of mutual goodwill, you live with them and don't have more expected of you because it's understood you're already contributing. And that's totally fine and normal!

If you're feeling guilty that you don't do enough to 'deserve' it, then you
1: need to ask yourself if you could be doing more (within the scope of your 'job')
2: ask your roommate if they think you could be doing more (within the scope of your 'job,' using what you thought to yourself as talking points)
and most importantly 3: need to stop expecting yourself to be perfect. As long as your living arrangements are comfortable that's all that matters.
If you want the extra money, do it because you want to, and not because you think you have to.

We live in a world where people are expected to run themselves ragged for entitled pieces of shit who have forgotten that work is supposed to be done with the intent of helping, not for the asinine rule that they have established where you fucking die if you don't acquiesce to their demands, where they're fully in control and can cut off your lifeline whenever they want. Do you know what that's called? That's just slavery with extra steps and an illusion of freedom!

So if anything I'm proud of you for having a life where you can live outside that toxic and inhumane system. Do not undersell the social hoops you had to jump through to get to this point, that you have a living partner who trusts you enough to make this goodwill arrangement with you is a real achievement in and of itself. It's not manipulation, you're not taking advantage of them, as long as you're doing what you promised in spirit as your part of the exchange and they're content with that, that's all that matters.
Have you had a heartfelt conversation with them about your worries? If not, you really should, it sounds like something really got under your skin, and if it was something they said that's all the more reason to talk about it. A friendship like that is rare and precious, cherish it.

I appreciate you taking the time to leave me this message :> Means alot to me and honestly, you have given me alot to think about.

And you are right, I have a really bad mentality of always thinking I need to be perfect s: I do really want that to change! Im just... always afraid... I dont want to do something to upset others, and always worry that I might be doing something wrong... I try to do things with nothing but good intent and I honestly cant stand being someone who would cause another person pain or sadness... I guess truly if there is anything I want personally its more self confidence and... I want to be able to give more to others :c Guess that would be more my motive than anything s: I just... like to be the one helping and taking care of others compared to feeling like its the other way around s:

But u are right! My roommate and me have been living together for years now :> And they are a friend I cherish :>

Hey, hey, the fact you even have those worries in the first place makes you a better person than most.

I do hope you'll have that talk and work things out in that stressful mess up in your mind. You're not a burden, trust that your friends would tell you straight if something up. Don't put words in their mouth with your anxiety, that's just past trauma writing conspiracy theories about yourself

how do you beat a conspiracy theory if the party struggles to listen to common sense? Make up an even crazier conspiracy theory and make their brain short-circuit! Instead of assuming everyone thinks the worst about you, assume everyone thinks you're loveable and charming and precious and that you do everything very well! ...because if you're wrong about THAT perspectivem people will be much more inclined to tell you instead of leaving you to your own worries
this is probably not good advice I'm not a therapist LOL
