Living in Ponyville

Brainsister and I have recently moved to a new house in a new development. Very soon after buying the block of land I twigged that all the streets are named after horses. My first guess was that the names are those of famous trotters. The area used to be full of stables owned by trainers of trotting horses. For some reason I thought the name Rimfire was that of a trotter. So I ask the sales rep if I was right. No, I'm told, they're all named after Melbourne Cup winners. Aha! That explains Carbine Street, Makybe Drive and the others. So, the logical conclusion is that there must be a Phar Lap Street. I'm told it's in the next area of land to be released. And since roads here can now only be one word long (I've named a couple of roads as part of my job, and can confirm this to be true) that means it will be called Phar Street. In the same way that Makybe Street should really be Makybe Diva Street.

So it looks like we'll have to move again so my address can be Phar Warner, Phar Street!

I would not be surprised if you actually did this in future.

Heheheh, quite the naming game that they have there, isn't it?  I can't help but to grin at it all.

I hope that all goes well at this new location.

lol Our family has a street named for it in Mobile AL. It was built by one of my great grandfathers on land he owned, and for a long time there were only 2 families on it that we weren't related to. None of this is as awesome as it sounds, but it's interesting all the same.

Not that I'm trying to deny you fame, but Phar Lap has to be shortened to Phar, not joined into Pharlap?

It's silly. I hope they can try and and get PharLap the fame he deserves. Pharlap would meet the criteria, but the developers seem to be cutting the second part of all names. Sanity at the geographic names committee went out the window a while ago. No PharLap either, as there can't be a capital in the middle of a word. Also all road names must now be phonetic... It goes on and on.

Are they being the same way with city names too?   We've already got a little confusion here with the towns of Ana, IL and Anna, IL.

We don't get new town names very often. Mukinbudin  and Meekatharra keep us all occupied as it is. Mandjoogoordap Drive was the last road I had a hand in naming.... I guess I like local Aboriginal names. They beat re-using English town names.

're-using English town names'
Re-using town names... can't help but think Futurama, and New New York. XD
