Just watched the first episode of Rise of TMNT....

Wtf is this shit? Like there's so much wrong with this series that I don't even know where to begin. The first episode just starts. No real introduction to the characters. I know we are on the 4th itteration of TMNT but you still need to introduce your characters.

Also they changed roles and personalities of all the turtles. Raph is the leader now wat, Leo is the moron, Donny still does machines but is dumb as a rock anyway, and Mikey is the slighty less moron. And Splinter....

Wtf did they do to him! I can't imagine this dude teaching anyone anything. He's just a tv watching asshole.

And why is April black? just because? You can't just change the race man, it was wrong in '87 when they made Baxter Stockman white and it's wrong now with April, stick to the damn lore PLEASE.

The entire show is apparently just episodes that doesn't have an actual arcs.

I'm getting angry just writing this, so I guess ill end it early and go rewatch 2003 version again. You know an actual quality show.

The remake wagon has always been shit, but it exponentially gets worse every year to be unwatchable.

Attenuating that to the real world we can historically discover that Pres.Carter in the 70's for instance was a failure at presidency, but tolerable.  The Biden admin is like the remake, and as we see, follows the pattern of being crap, but in only 9 months to exceeded what took Carter 4 years to totally fuck up.

I'm honestly surprised that the show wasn't hijacked to peddle woke PC bullshit / agendas like most re-makes these days.. *cough* Masters of the Universe *cough*
I wasn't actually aware that they had once again re-booted TMNT but based on your description I probably don't want to watch it..
From memory the 2003 iteration was pretty poggers and actually had story arcs / interesting characters....

the 3D one was also pretty good. This new one is the Teen Titans GO of TMNT.

the new one does have story arcs it's jsut that they aren't in the forefront like most action cartoons. it's an episodic series with an overarching story in the background. also surprised you hadn't heard of it since:
>it was announced back in 2017, with initial screenshots, everyone hated the redesigns and thought it was going to be the TTG of TMNT shows
>the episodes actually released and showed not only did it have decent writing compared to TTG, but also ridiculously good animation (same animation team behind Lego Monkie Kid)
>the scheduling for the episode releases were terrible as is par for the course with most nick cartoons that weren't Loud House & Casagrandes
>the show got cancelled after it's seecond season without notic to the animation staff and everyone tried to get it renewd
>now it's supposed to have a movie finale that's currntly in developement hell (likely also due to their animation studio having moved on to Monkie Kid)

trust me i also had some extremely large gripes with this show how ever, with me i just treat it as an alternate universe butt! try to stick with it as the show goes on it gets much better, the fight scenes are the most intense fights i have ever seen in a TMNT they are all animated extremely well and despite the show feeling as weird as it is the fights are worth watching it for :3

Sorry, but You need more than good animation to make a show watchable.

there are actual storyarcs in th show it's just that they aren't in the forefront and are overarching arcs in the background. i would say like how modern cartoons handle overarcing storis but tbh alot of cartoons have always handled overarching narratives this way(SU, AT, Owl House, Amphibia, Justice League/JLU, Static Shock, KND, TMNT 2012, original Teen Titans, etc.)
season 1:
the new villain trying to mutate everyone
the new villain & the footclan are trying to revive the shredder/harness his power

Season 2:
clean up of what happened after the events of the first season
a newer villain showing up to continue the previous villain's work
the footclan working in the background and growing stronger over time

if you just watched the first episode then i could say, you can't past judgement on a show over 1 episode, like i could say i hate Teen Titans go but i would be contradicting my self as i do like some episodes of that show like the 4 episode mini movie if you'd like to call it about that song The Night Begins To Shine or the episode when all of them died, except beast boy and he gave them all a blood transfusion with his blood and they all could turn into animals i could go on but over all i really don't like a majority of the teen titans go, as for ROTTMNT i agree with you on splinter but i still like the show because once i watch a few more episodes seen splinter actually in action kicking some tail and his sexy ex-wife but that's probably because i'm into spider chicks, O.o but i digress the show grew on me and by the time i watched a few more episodes the first season was over and i thirst for the second season

Just reading that pisses me off. This is coming off of the 2012 3D Nick one and imo, the best one. The characters are perfect (although a little weird with Donnie having a crush on a teen April, but I guess he's a teen, too, so it's "okay" on TV.), The turtles are brotherly and with appropriate personalities, Splinter is a bad ass master, actual Japanese folklore, the turtles are actually learning realistic ninjutsu and kenjutsu with them actually trying to be stealthy. My only gripe is that it does get really childish, especially with the minor villains.

Just a note: IIRC, Raph was at one point the leader in the comics and that was changed to Leo just before the 80's cartoon.

i still remember the episode of 2012 TMNT when master splinter legit taught his kids + Casey honest to god drunk-fu. also in 2012 they eventually had donnie get over his crush on april in a healthy way while addressing how weird it was to begin with (and also have april be part space-psychic)

Story got a little weird, yeah, but still good. Rewatching it now and got to the return of the Rat King and Master Splinter beating him blindfolded was just so badass, and the turtles rescuing him from Shredder, I love how their eyes white out when they get serious. Do they even do that in Rise? I tried googling it and only got images from earlier series'.

as someone who's grown up watching and rewatcheed all of 2003, 2012, and this one, i'd have to say while i have some gripes with Rise, there's actually a surprising amount of good idas and twists on characters outside. also the itself does have overarching storylins it's just not in the forefront (the new villain trying to mutate all of humanity plus him & the footclan trying to revive The Shredder. in season 1)

Master Splinter gets segnifigantly better from his initial impression as Rise goes on and tries to not only teach them proper ninjutsu but also be a good father for once in this version.
also some of thee humor was actually pretty funny, alot better than TTG that's for sure

my only major problems with Rise is their characterization of Baxter  """Stockboy""" and  some of the episodes in the first half of season 1 being total duds

btw April was originally black i nthe comics because she was initially based on one of the creator's then-girlfriend

I happen to have the ultimate collection vol 1 on TMNT which contains the first 313 pages of the comics. April was never black. She had curly hair later on but that's about it. In the shots with her and Stockman, Stockman is clearly coloured and April is pure white and this is in a comic that is only in black and white.

ah, i had read somewhere that her curly design was her being lightskinned.

April was never black. She was a white girl with a perm.  As was the fashion of the time

How long has that one been a thing? I never got around to watching it. Nothing about it appealed to me in the slightest. I was real invested in the 3D animated one, just like the 2003 version before it.

The goofy quirks of the original animated series will always have a special place, too, of course. Not to mention the original live action movies, haha. But the other two series are on another level of quality by every measure. I guess you don't recommend giving into morbid curiosity and watching Rise?

Huh... I stand corrected. Only just watched the first episode myself now, and it doesn't seem so bad. But then, I'm a little forgiving when it comes to something like this, I think, after an intro blurb in a reprint of the original comic I got on a "free comic book day" quite a few years ago, which basically thanked all the fans over the years and expressed a hope that we'd always enjoy the stories to come, no matter what form they may take.

I'm paraphrasing there, but it was a nice sentiment that I try to live by. Unfortunately, far too many things these days seem to end up butchered in order to make a quick buck, or appeal to a certain PC agenda. This doesn't feel like that.

However, when alternate universes are canon to a fictional series -- case in point, the crossover movie TMNT Forever, which I fucking loved -- I feel like it isn't too hard to forgive, or completely ignore, practically anything you don't like. Conversely, I can't do that with Star Wars, since they ret-conned all the old expanded universe stuff, rather than embracing the rich history of the franchise itself, but here it's literally and canonically an alternate universe, which I can totally dig. I'd hate it if they did that with Star Wars; alternate universes and time travel have no place in Star Wars. I'm all for a "what if" style of story, which is how I viewed the whole expanded universe, those can be fun. But that's not what Disney tried to do. Even under contractual obligations to NOT fuck with the established original trilogy, that is literally ALL they have done, instead of writing their own expanded universe story to add the franchise's history.

Sorry, uh... got off track there. I'm still a little bitter about Star Wars.
