Technology for a Series

I hope the title was click-baity enough, cause i need your attention :P
I'll try to make it short. There's a poll in the end you can participate in.

-- -- --

So I've been planning to make a series out of my pirate-themed picture set, which i'm still working on.
The current picture set is a classical pirate-fantasy, but here comes the "but".

BUT: I thought about the world, recently, and I remembered that the technology level is slightly
above ours (remember the cloning stuff?) so I thought it might be cool to have the pirate-themed
series have also some technological advancements compared to our world.

It'd be nothing too fancy, just slight steam-punkish touches. Basically imagine our RL 1700s
having some electricity through steam-power and some mechanical gadgets.
A handcranked radio to listen to crackly low-range broadcasts; flickery lightbulbs not much
brighter than oil lamps and revolver pistols that don't use cartrigdes, but the drums have to be
loaded like a frontloader. stuff like that, that gives a few more options for the story or cool scenes.

that would also mean there'd be some basic electric grills and ovens ;)
imagine a pirate sitting on a fixed bicycle thing to provide the energy to slowly cook some
unfortunate crew member while yelled at by the rest of the crew to be silent because they're
trying to listen to the football comentator on the radio xD
all while stranded on a beach Oo

POLL:
The rules are simple; as always you may only vote on one of the sites i'm posting this poll.
You also have 1 (one) vote.

A: Keep it historically similar to our world. no anachronistical technology please.
B: Some extra technology like mentioned above is ok.
C: Go crazy with the tech! Add some stuff that's not even in our world nowadays!

RESULTS:

A: 0
B: IIIIIIII 8
C: I 1

This poll will end on the 18th of August

Y'know, if you have enough antenna, AM broadcasts don't require power at all. The signal itself can move the speaker cone.

Which means pirate crews might have a lot of high-strength, narrow-gauge, metal wire laying around.

Also bicycles might be less likely than a treadle.

B for me as well...  Actually, the two forms of electric light that preceded the light bulb, that I know of, were limelight and arc-light...  Both were rather bright, although arc-light was a bit flickery while starting up...  And don't forget clockwork chronometers...  How else can you know when it's time to check the roast, or let that poor fellow stop bicycling...  And remember, the first airplane was produced by a couple of bicycle repairmen...

now i'm imagining the two inventors building their airplane with used bicycle parts

And then they look at the propellors and say, "Wait a minute..."  And suddenly you have a bicycle powered Spit...

B, but go just a little bit crazy with the alternate tech tree :) Think like Nikola Tesla :)

Hm, I'm inclined to say B. A little tech is fine, but go ahead and be creative with it! I mean...steampunkish is all about ingenuity using simple things.
