My eye hurts :( Feels like it's been cut, swollen, watering and hard to see out of.
So basically this has been going on for half a year, and i haven't connected the dots until today, when i woke up, and after a few minutes my left eye started hurting like hell and watering non-stop. I ended up taping it closed with a bandage to ease it as best i could; as fate would have it, we had made an appointment at an eye doc today for new glasses.
I explained to him what had been going on, how around Jan i had taken a nap at my folks place, and woken up with a sore and watering left eye, and by that night had to have a tissue on the pillow for how much it watering. Had chalked it up to allergies at the time, and it got better after a couple days. But, every few weeks, that would happen again, always with the same eye. The doc seemed pretty sure he knew what it was, and when he looked at the eye, he absolutely knew.
There were several dry spots in the cornea, he said. So, it's not great.
Right now, we're getting antibiotic eye drops to work on healing the current tearing of the eye surface. Once that's done, we'll move to preventative treatments, such as gel drops at night.
I've been through that. There actually is a treatment that doesn't involve surgery, but it seems not a lot of ophthalmologists know about it. I was lucky enough to eventually find one that did. And it's such an incredibly simple thing.
Doxycycline, 50mg, taken twice a day for several months, plus a topical corticosteroid.
I know this horror well. In January at work I had a piece of cardboard cut my eye. Tore the cornea open. Went to the emergency clinic the next day because it didnt feel like it had healed any. Things seemed fine after about a month until it tore open again when I woke up one morning. Felt like a wet paper towel had been ripped off my skin. I've had mornings where I've woken up and been in pain, and starting off with an ice pack on the eye for about ten minutes, and then a hot towel have alleviated some of it. I also have an ointment for bed. Muro 128. It helps keep the eye moist at night when I sleep. Just a little dab carefully on the inside of the lower eyelid right before sleep.
Bleurgh, I hope this problem isnt much of one for long. I know how much it hurts.

Hang in there, keep taking steps. You're surrounded by friends and loved ones. There seems to be a lot of good advice going around here, which is reassuring. *MASSIVE HUGS*
