stream cancelled; tablet broken

sorry! tomorrow's stream is cancelled -- the Wacom PTH-850 is kind of a piece of crap and the USB doesn't connect properly. later models include a crazy metal shim to compensate for bad engineering but mine doesn't have that!! today it kicked the bucket

no stream! tablet broken!

:( thanks friend! I'm sorry too. The timing was impeccable too because this was my first stream in over a year, (though I've been using the tablet continuously,) and also my last day of work which I was looking to celebrate with friends. Both the celebrations and my stream were impeded by my tablet breaking, it almost felt poetic in some cruel way.

I probably should have asked about that first! I've always enjoyed Wacom's products and most of my problems with them have stemmed from Windows's bizarre interpretation of what a drawing tablet should do -- signing documents, launching applications with swipe gestures, touch input, whatever. This is the first tablet where I feel like it's broken because of a manufacturing defect on Wacom's end.

I'm disappointed but not disappointed enough to abandon Wacom as my tablet provider. But, I was very tempted to try a Huion tablet instead. They're much cheaper and get good reviews.

Huion is having a 30% sale that just started yesterday if you wanted to have a look, but i guess you already replaced your tablet by now.

I've had a ton of experience with huion models over the years and they pretty much rapidly improved to match WACOM since WACOM's tech patents expired in 2018 and all their tech/innovations got copied/gobbled up. The difference between the brands is now just external design/name and country of manufacturing, rather than software.

I would say maybe next time, but with your new WACOM, that's gonna last another 10 years anyway, as close as huion and wacom are now, wacom is still the best, even if that gap is much much smaller than it was 10 years ago.

thanks for filling me in! i was skeptical because they were like 20% of the price of Wacom tablets, and I was like... they have to be smaller? or less reliable? there must be a catch! but next time i'll give them a try!

the catch USED TO BE, was they couldn't put the R & D into thier products like WACOM, whose own R & D was one of the reasons for high prices, well...that, high cost of Japanese parts and labour and just knowing they could set their own prices as the leader.

But now all that Wacom R & D came out for all to see, experiment and copy on in 2018. Huion could use the improvements for free and to no additional cost to the customers.

For example, why did Wacom have a batteryless pen for a decade and Huion only had one post-2018? Huion could have made one easily, but could because not only did Wacom invent the tech, they also BLOCKED companies from using anything similar, so even if Huion made thier own, they could not SELL it, so that's useless.

Honestly in 21 years of drawing I've never had a tablet die like that! I definitely put it through its paces.

Well believe it or not we met once back on FA. I font know if you remember mrdesmond. But you drew my avatar for me. It was the Pikachu waving hi. We had a chat for a bit on Skype. But life kinda hit in odd places.

At any rate I just wanted to return the kindness that you gave me when I started out drawing. :3

I swapped my style to a more cutie approach. But I am trying to get it a bit more.... I guess anthro is more like it. But I am a sucker for cute stuff.

I still have a lot of improvement to go through. Gotta learn to make my pictures less flat. But hey, at least my pose work is getting better haha!

yeah, both styles have their pros and cons! it's good to be flexible where you understand what goes into both i guess. ...but, most artists have a preference

i'm always surprised to hear about anthro artists who say they can't draw a cartoony style! ...anthro style seems much harder to me.
