Whine, moan, complain...

The worst thing in the world is having to spend money on un-fun things, especially when you don't even get to see something shiny and new for it.

For a couple of days, I was feeling the worst pain, possibly in my life.  A constant pain in my jaw that kept spreading to feel like an icepick was being shoved into my ear.  It got so bad that I finally confronted one of my oldest fears and visited a dentist.

Basically a broken tooth got infected, and my wallet a little over $100 lighter, I'm on Amoxicillin and megadosing Motrin and Tylenol until another appointment where I'll get to spend another $750 to have what's left of two teeth removed.  Worst part is, the dentist said the rest of my teeth look pretty good, so I might be going back to get them maintained.

I even thought about getting at least dental insurance to help, but it doesn't seem to add up to being worth it, with the deductibles and maximum yearly caps, it might end up being more expensive with insurance than without!

Dental insurance really is NOT worth it - at least with other types of insurance, you're covering for random acts of chaos which do tend to happen with enough of a frequency to justify the cost...but how often do you actually have more than one or two major problems with teeth over the course of a lifetime - especially if you keep them well-maintained?

Even in high-risk situations, like boxing, that might result in tooth damage above the norm...the insurance still doesn't seem like a good deal.

Yeah, even full dentures are only a couple thousand dollars, if you figure $30/mo for insurance, if you just save that money, you'll have them paid for in a few years anyway.  They will pay the full cost of a couple yearly cleanings, but thats only about $250 anyway

I am with ya, man. I have the same thing going on. I have been battling a broken tooth and some cavities for months now. I know inevitably I will have to pay for that, but so far, I am holding out stubbornly. Hope you feel better soon though

Thanks, and yeah, the Amoxicillin seems to be doing a number on it. It no longer gets to the point that my mouth can't hurt anymore, so it starts feeling like someone's shoving an ice pick into my ear :P

Also, glad too see you're still checking in!
