Last week, I had an argument of sorts with the Fandom's crankiest feather duster- 2 the Ranting Gryphon. You see, I used to be a big fan of his. Even though I could never attend his shows or meet him in person, I listened to all his rants and watched his stand-up comedy online. My fan boy status for him changed however when he got sacked from AC. It wasn't due to being "woke", but more because of how he handled the dismissal that made me look at him in a different light.
About last week or so, 2 posted a tweet telling people that they need to move out of their comfort zones to live life. Even though this is sage advice, I felt that 2 wasn't the one to give it since it's Fandom knowledge that most of his rants are about things that he either hates or can't understand that are outside his comfort zone, and that 2 has a reputation of drinking heavily at cons and developed an addiction because he couldn't really handle being around a lot of people. When it came to the tweet, I expressed how I don't think he was able to give that advice given his past of drinking just to be around others, to which some furs actually liked and agreed with.
About a few hours later, 2 messaged me personally on Twitter and asked me if I was mad at him. I told that I wasn't mad, though I thought that his advice was unnecessary given his past solutions and that I was a fan until the AC issue. 2 fired back at me on how AC ruined his career since they banned him for "promoting free speech" on Twitter. 2 even went on toe claim that "SJWs" are always trying to paint him as a monster and a Nazi for his opinions. I replied to him explaining that his expressed thoughts on suicide, although old, are still floating around online for people to see and hear, and newer furries are going to find that stuff and automatically get a bad taste in their mouths. I also expressed that AC likely dropped his show since he had the stage for over 20 years and they wished to try something new, and that his reaction and ranting is what lead him to being barred from performing at AC altogether.
Throughout the argument, 2 kept with his blaming SJWs angle, while I tried to claimly state that his own actions and viewpoints is what is causing his career to do a dive into ruin. I even stated that his views on transgender people and believing that they want validation for their "sexual fetish" is what ultimately lead to his 2 Sense show to go up in flames when some of the furs that helped out like Witchiebunny got offended and left. I also explained to him that after claiming AC banned him for "promoting free speech" on Twitter and later claiming that the Furry Raiders leader Foxler wasn't as bad as people make him out to be and that he wasn't a Nazi, Furry Raiders publicly announced their support of 2 on Twitter and sat out thrashing any furs that give any criticism of him; thus dragging his career down further due to the toxicity surrounding him.
2 continued his lashing out at me and even stated that what I was saying was false since no one knows him better than him, and even tried to do some impromptu rant by saying that he could say he doesn't like Korean food and someone will call him a Nazi. He also said that he had no special privileges when he performed at AC, and that he didn't buy that they dropped him over low attendance since his show had 1000 viewers every year.
After hearing this, I decided to do some research and crunch some numbers. I told him my findings in that the AC board of directors made the decision to drop his act because his attendance was indeed low when concidering that the overall attendance to the convention was getting larger and larger, while his show's attendance stayed the same for several years. During his last time on stage in 2016, the number of AC attendees at his show was around 1000, however the overall con attendance was over 6000. After projecting that 2's standup would likely never go past 2000 viewers anytime soon, the board of directors decided to drop his show from the con roster since continued showings would end up causing the con to bleed money since the con would be paying for venue space that isn't being utilized properly. They likely had thought of allowing 2 to stay on and help when it came to helping set up stage events, however his reaction to having his stand-up dropped and his past admittance that he seeks out opportunities to be a dick quickly changed their decision and opted for him to keep away from the stage entirely.
I am not trying to vilify 2 here. I'm not writing this to call him a monster or a Nazi. I see 2 as a person brought low by his own hubris and failure to comprehend that his own toxicity, quick temper, and art of blaming people for their problems while at the same time blaming others for his own are what ultimately caused his career to titter over the edge and into the abyss. I wish no ill will towards 2 in any way, so please don't go out and start lashing at him over this journal. His woes are his own to deal with weither he finally realizes their error of his ways and tries to make amends to save his career, or go down with the ship and curse others for the so-called "cancel culture" and "censorship" set against him is in the end his choice to make, and his alone.
