Should I?

by
It keeps coming up that people think Rurik, this guy, is a bear instead of a raccoon. I imagine its because of his particular coloration so should I just redesign him to be a bear? What could I do about his design to make it clear he's a raccoon even if his tail isn't showing?

Honestly, I think it could just be because hybrid species are fairly common in the fandom. His design is admittedly a bit atypical for a raccoon, so even with the tail visible people might just lean towards the bear label, even subconsciously.

But I don't think you should change him. I assume he looks the way you wanted him to and even if others don't find it immediately "legible" that doesn't mean the design is a problem. I could be way off there of course, I admit I don't know the history of the character. But in my opinion raccoons are way sexier than bears! If you wanted, perhaps it could be worked into the character? That he's aware people mistake him for a bear, maybe annoyed by it

It's because of the way his build is. He looks more like a built bear then a Raccoon.

I can see it both ways. Maybe a more pronounced muzzle?

Having a look, I think a slightly change in the face MIGHT help... For example, His noise and ears could be slightly more pointed, his face more oval than round. But then there's the belly and build, and that's just how he is. Unfortunately, most people see that build and think 'bear' because... reasons...
