Just got word of a friend dying in her sleep last night. She was one of the fellow NYC Geeks and GF of one of the male members as I knew them to be. I won't say what killed her but it was not Covid, it was a a long lasting condition she was fighting later in life, but she was in her early - mid 40s.
She was one of those people that kept what was hurting her secretly quiet to herself, and was more into getting others to be happy when they were down. She was brutally honest at times but I think that is a trait that many geeks have.
I only seen her like a few times a year, mostly to celebrate special occasions and holidays with the NYC Geeks but in that I have known her for many years, in fact decades as we geeks go back tot he mid 1980s and she was there back then. She was special to those around her. Even me though we were rather friend of friends kind of distance and that is how I wanted it. Many of us within the group are heart broken - another one lost and at such a young age at that.
I will end it here as I am at a loss for words.
