My E3 Highlights so far

So in case you're living under a rock or don't really give a crap about games beyond simply playing them the Electronic Entertainment Expo has been going on this week as it does every year for some time now and so far I'd say its been pretty underwhelming overall.

But that's not a huge surprise given that we're in the final year of the current consoles and next year will begin the next generation where we all yet again get impressed by pretty graphics but games themselves take about another year or two to begin to evolve again some more.

I managed to catch the Microsoft and EA conferences live and have caught up on the big deals of the others and the games that were shown today and so far I'd say the following are things that grabbed my attention in no particular order:

The Last of Us: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZYkj0glnqs

Lost Planet 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HYlxB1JRbk

God of War Ascension: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1QOCbAoRts

Assassins Creed 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZrklEy9ohQ

Looking forward to seeing more games this week.  Yay games.

Yay E3 ^^
Didn't it got canceled at some point? But it still exists?

Yeah I think like 2007 or something cost them so much money they seriously downsized it in 2008 and then it went back to being crazy again the year after.   It's not really a "omg I'm so surprised and amazed" show anymore because everyone finds out or sees stuff on the net before it happens these days but its still fun to watch all the crazy stuff.  No hilariously awkward moments like their were last year so far unfortunately.

The Last of Us was about the only thing from the Sony presentation that grabbed my attention, but that might've been due to it being the only non-sequel of the bunch. The entire thing was kinda depressing, though, particularly with how you could tell which words/phrases were on the list-of-things-we're-required-to-say. In particular, how things are "unique", or in the case of Far Cry Whatever, "insane".

The 2005 E3 was still pretty exciting, and a ton of fun, even at the tail end of the last generation (hell, even Twilight Princess was only demo'd on the Gamecube). Then again, that might've just been my "kid in a candy store" reaction~

underwhelming is an understatement, I mean last year or even year before the cheering an applause was so loud it drowned out the music and the speakers, This year it seemed the subdued clapping of opera house patrons. It just felt like no-one really even tried to bring their A game.

Well imo its merely the calm before the storm.  Next year is going to be so insane what with PS4 and the next Xbox being shown for the first time along with several currently in development titles planned for those platforms they must be saving all their money and meaningful material for that E3.

If the rumored specs of the Wii U are reality, we're in for a treat with the next Xbox and Playstation.

However.  I'm a PC gamer.  New consoles mean one thing to me.  Cross-platform games and ports will be MUCH more likely to take full advantage of what my PC has to offer/

Haha yeah I'm in the same boat more or less, I still get the majority of my games on PC.  Just can't beat a top of the line rig running things at max.  ^_^

Here's my (completely unasked for) impressions of those vids:

The Last of Us looks like Uncharted.. I'm guessing (w/o looking) it was made by the same developer. Neat looking combat. Too bad it's going to be PS3 only. I'd be more interested if it was on PC.

Lost Planet 3..? I forgot 2 was already out. XD I never finished the first one. I should really give it another go. =O

God of Snore.. er War.. I'm not going to say that they need to change everything every game, but that video didn't really grab me. After playing Bayonetta and enjoying the variety it provided, watching GoW being played is fairly boring. =p Maybe it's more fun to watch if you're playing it. [shrugs]

Ass. Creed 3 looks a bit more organic. The combat looks a tad more dynamic, though it's sad to see how passive most of the baddies remain even after all these games. I still haven't played anything beyond AssCreed2 yet though as they added draconian 'always on' DRM for us PC players. Until that changes I'll have to pass.

Oh yes God of War is very much about the gameplay for me, I wasn't concerned with specifically what was going on in their demo as it was for the most part pretty bland standard GoW material but as someone who delves deep in to those games combat systems I was excited for the mid combo weapon switching he did and the new aoe power move which seems similar to one of my favorite attacks from GoW2 that never made it in to 3.  I just love how they play and another of those is like candy for me lol but yes I'm also very excited for whatever next big thing Platinum does cause boy was Bayonetta so good.

What I really liked about Asscreed was how much better the navigation animation systems seem to be, like the way he so seemlessly transitioned with no wonky "gamey" weirdness where you push the stick in a direction and the character doesn't quite do what you want.  I think they've gotten way better at minimizing that which is what Asscreed has always been about to me.  The new protagonist and varied setting also just makes me scream FINALLY no more effing Ezio lol.

And yeah Lost Planet 3 is still a big surprise to me, I spent soooo many hours with the 1st and 2nd game and after 2 flopped and everyone seemed to hate it except me I never thought to see the franchise again but its not dead and the new game is way different and reminds me of Dead Space and Mech Warrior so woot!
