My Mom Broke Her Leg

So a little while ago, my mom went in for knee surgery. It went well, all things considered, though I had to stay over at her apartment for a few days and help her out. I did my best, though I wasn't terribly good at it since I'm unfamiliar with being a caregiver. In any event, when she was feeling better, we parted on good terms and I went home. A few days later, though, she called me from the hospital to tell me she'd broken her leg rolling over in bed somehow (!). When she was taken to the hospital in the ambulance, she forgot her phone and also didn't know her room number at the hospital. So after she and I were done talking, there was no way for me to call her back, which was bad because we ended the conversation on bad terms.

We argued because she'd gotten a rug from Rooms to Go and it turned out to be too big for her apartment, and she'd had a very unsuccessful phone call with them trying to return it, only for them to tell her that although they sold the rugs at their store, a third party vendor actually delivered it through UPS and they couldn't take it back; she'd need to get in touch with the aforementioned vendor. She wanted me to call Rooms to Go on her behalf to get them to come get the rug. My efforts to tell her that the result would be the same only angered her and led her to accuse me of not trying hard enough to help her, and she hung up. It's true that when she called, I was not in the best of moods due to being out of my anti-anxiety meds and not sleeping very well, but in all honesty, since she had paid for the rug and not me, I'm not sure what I could've done to help resolve her situation.

Nevertheless, I did call Rooms to Go, and, as I'd predicted, I was told my mom would have to contact the vendor. I couldn't impart this information to her, though, because, as mentioned, the hospital won't connect you if you call unless you know the patient's room number and my mom didn't know hers for some reason. So I waited for her to call back, but I guess she was really mad at me because two days went by without a word from her. Finally, she called me recently. My sister had gone by her apartment and gotten her dog Lafayette to take to her house, and also gotten my mom's phone. I apologized for seeming so unhelpful and told her that Rooms to Go told me the exact same thing they'd told her, just as I'd said she would, but it apparently is a moot point because, at least according to my sister, someone did come and get the rug, so I guess it's all resolved now.

As for my mom's leg, after some surgery, she's fine. She can't come home just yet. They're transferring her to a rehab clinic. My sister is going to look after her pets for her. More updates as they come. Blegh. 2021 sucks so far. But it's early yet, only January. Maybe the rest of the year will be better.

Oh, and as for the kids who've been bothering me, I haven't seen them for days, so that's good, at least.
