KURORAK

1.

a bird mother sits still at her nest, waiting for her egg to hatch.
and then, it cracks, and it cracks! she anticipates with such glee!
her hatchling! her own hatchling! it has come to life.
now come. let mother show you how lush the world really is.

but it is then that the hatchling realizes, she does not give the full picture.
it was merely illusions, phantasmagoria, a fabricated look of what the mother wants her hatchling to see.
"why?" the hatchling chirps. he thinks these displays are restrictive, constricted;
yet the mother continues to show and nurture him, as if all is right in the world.

he begins to wonder, "can i let go of my own mother?
it takes time, but it all becomes clear now
that what i see is what she wants to see
the values, the wants, the world itself"

"for i have things i want to do, things i want to try, things i want to see!
but she cares for me, much to my demise
the freedom will not be earned, perhaps until death split us part
and that shall be when i gain my Independence."

that night, the hatchling sleeps in the nest
with the mother continuing to nurture him,
as if all is right in the world.

in his sleep, he knows that this is naïve
but that naïveté, he thinks, shall gain him Independence.

all he has to do, right now, is to pretend he is sleeping.
