Sorry for the lack of post, a mix of not feeling social, and nothing of note happening. After a while it’s tough to come with a post that basically amounts to “nothing happened.” Of course, I can always talk about what I wrote, but ultimately that’s just a different kind of “everything’s the same”
But this week I have something to talk about. Nothing big, and it’s probably a variation on something I’ve written about before, but you deserve something after two full weeks of silence.
So yeah, the company screwed up yet again. Nothing big; at least from my side, actually for me I consider it insignificant, but for a while it looked like they were going to scream at me.
First off, you can tell when they know they screwed up when they don’t communicate with me over the truck’s terminal, that keeps a record of everything and which everyone in the company can read. This time it was over email.
Friday morning, ten minutes after I stared driving, I get an email asking for my ETA, which I give as that day, 1pm. Immediately I get a reply informing me that I have to advise dispatch anytime I am going to be late.
And here is there screw up.
I picked up the load on Wednesday, immediately after being loaded I send them an ETA of 2pm on Friday, and I never hear back from them.
So they told the customer who said that wasn’t acceptable and demanded an earlier ETA, to which the company agreed to and never informed me of. (these are my suppositions) So I couldn’t adjust my driving, or tell them it wasn’t going to happen.
So I replied to the email telling them I couldn’t be late since the ETA I gave was 2pm. Their reply was a “hurry up they are waiting for the delivery.”
And after I get there and deliver, a little bit before 1pm? I get a “good work” email, like somehow what they’d done had played any part in me getting there when I got there.
Then, they send to drop a trailer in Brampton. Like I do every time, an hour before I get there on Saturday, I ask if they are going to have a load for me. I get a load that requires driving on Sunday, for which I didn’t have enough hours, as per the macro I’d sent in the morning. I actually got the dispatcher to admit he doesn’t look at those things. He grumbled, but changed the load to something that didn’t require me driving Sunday.
I am going to either have to write off any Saturdays where drop in Brampton from now out, or figure out a different way of asking that include a clear statement of my available hours.
One last thing. I wrote all this two days ago to ensure I wouldn’t be late posting it, and I still managed to be late
And that’s it for now, so I’ll see you on the next one.
