Getting by, and immediate plans

Man, where does the time go?  It's been seven months since my last journal, so I suppose it's time for an update.

First off, I have a surprise picture for you all on Halloween.  Over the last few years, Wac and Tawny have had some "interesting" developments in their relationship, and I'm planning on finally making a few pictures to get people up to speed.  It's rather likely some people may not agree with how things have turned out, but nonetheless they're happy together.

With the pandemic going on and the surgeries and health issues I've faced over the last couple years, I can't say I've been in a good mental state as of late.  I don't talk about it for many reasons, but mostly it's because everybody has their own problems and I don't want to be a downer.  However, I've been struggling with chronic depression for most of my life, and I really have to come to terms with the additional anxiety that's been building up  as I've been cooped up at home for the last few months.  Mortality and a sense of purpose have been on my mind a lot.

Being an extreme introvert, I never thought I'd reach a point where I felt truly isolated and lonely, but it's time I accepted that it's become a problem.  There's not much I can do about that until the pandemic is over, I suppose, but lately I've felt it's time for me to share some information on my oddball projects.  There's no point doing all this stuff and keeping it to myself for the rest of my life.  Talking about my feelings never makes me feel better, but I do like discussing my work.

Mostly what I've been working on is a new homebrew 8-bit computer.  Since this isn't related to furry I've not discussed this openly to any degree, but I've reached a point where I should start getting some information out.  While my system architecture is more or less a stripped-down Amiga and not terribly interesting, I'm working on my own completely original CPU, which is very, very unique.  My CPU design is very much a CISC design, but it's very RISC-like internally and has a lot of interesting and advanced features compared to other 8-bit processors from the 80's.  I haven't done much in the way of performance evaluation, but the ISA is almost completed, so I plan to finally start working on a simulator and release some information on how it works.

You can expect some geeky journals talking about retro computer stuff and maybe a few system architecture pictures.  It's not furry, but it's better than nothing.  Most people on IB/FA probably won't care or understand how it works, but furry sites are about the only social media I can stand, so I'll take my chances.  Facebook, Twitter, and all those commercial social media sites can go **** themselves.

I've been really struggling to justify working on new art, especially since I'm way out of practice and don't find drawing very interesting or rewarding.  I don't intend to work on any more comics -- they're just too time consuming.  My plan right now is to make some "slice-o-life" pictures to grant some closure to my comic strips, and if I can't get that done in a timely manner, I'll try writing out some epilogues.  As I said, I have a picture to post on Halloween that might get some odd reactions.  But don't worry... it's pretty funny.  Hey, you know me.  I've always preferred funny stuff to drama.  8)

My puppet project has been stalled for quite a while because I haven't figured out how to operate the mouth.  The eyes work great, but my fingers are too short to open and close the jaw properly with a traditional finger strap.  I figure I'd have to engineer some trigger mechanism to open the mouth, but getting this to work has been tricky due to my lack of experience building puppets (or sculpting in general).  I'm especially worried about the head cocking to one side every time I pull the trigger to make the puppet talk, so this will take a bit more thought.  I admit I've shelved the puppet for quite a while (far too long, actually), and I'll give it one more go.

I had high hopes for my puppet, since it would be a great way for me to make "furry" content quickly without having to spend hours hunched over a drawing board, and YouTube videos can be more fun to watch than static pictures.  I really hope I can make the puppet work out, but I'm really riding on the edge of my talent, and I'm not sure if I can pull it off.  We'll see.

That's it for now.  I'll make dedicated journals for my projects as I start to prioritize.

It's nice to hear from you again, Wac!

Many here, including myself, post stuff that's not furry related, so don't be shy about informing us on your computer project. I for once would love to know more about it, even if I'm probalby too dumb to understand the more technical part of it, it sounds fascinating.
