Happy with my "new" Intuos3

by
Heheh!!! The delivery estimate was from the 24th of may to the 12th of June and it got here on the 24th!! Mwhaha!!! I love this thing. Unplugged my old Intuos2 , reinstalled the drivers ,and plugged this in. It's a little scuffed in places but nowhere near as used as my old one is ^///^

The pen is wider and has a rubber grip around it, ends up making it feel really solid compared to the solid plastic of the old one. The toggle button feels like it's further down...or something, but that's because the pen itself is actually longer, there's more for my hand to grip. The touch strips work perfectly, I tested them out in SAI first, and they got me zooming around like a zoom'n fool XD There's no overlay sheet, just the default plastic there, but it feels like drawing on glass!!! Sooo smooth!!!

One problem I encountered was that my palm would accidently touch the touchstrip when I type, causing it to zoom in or whatever it was made to do. I just got an old sock, cut off half of it so my fingers would fit though and cut a hole for my thumb. Boom, problem solved. I suspect the same thing could be used for the Intuos5 too. Another little gripe I have is that you can't set the keys on the tablet to auto-repeat while you hold them down - like how a keyboard does. But just now I was able to create a little AHK script that auto-repeats everytime i hold down one of the tablet's keys. ^.^ So, another problem solved!

I'm still pretty happy with this tablet so far, love the drawing surface a lot, and the pen is just awesome. It's unreal how smooth it feels, even though it's like what?...8 years old by now?

Thanks! Oh yeah...well...yeah I still got some more stuff to complete.

I can't really stand a rough surface ^^; I drew on one for..I dunno how long. I made loud scratchy noises, ground down my nibs, and sounded just..baaad. I really can't understand the whole rough drawing surface fetish ^///^

for some the friction helps them control the lines better for others the less friction makes it easyer. it's all preference.

That zoom-while-typing thing with the touch strips is what caused me to turn them off entirely. Other then that though the intuos3 is a mighty fine and durable tablet. I had mine for 7 years, and it lasted through many moves, having soda spilled on it, having said soda soaked into the circuit board and screwing up half the drawing surface, having it taken apart, circut board cleaned and fucked around with. The thing is a mangled mess but surprisingly it still works just fine today. Well, the 60% of the drawing area that wasn't fucked by the soda still works XD. Imagine how well it'll do if you actually take care of it, unlike me! =D

You....you soaked it with soda???!!!!! Oh my god....geez...lol!!  I've spilled a "tiny" bit of water on the drawing surface on my Intuos2 a couple times over the years. Just wiped it up with a paper towel and it was fine. I don't think it ever actually got inside the tablet, because it has no buttons or touchsprips and the drawing surface is pretty tight up against the outer plastic of the case. I notice here on the Intuos3 that the drawing surface is like completely flush with the case though. Probably be very easy for something to get inside there 0_0

Thank you for the warning / story!!! I'll definitely be careful with mine! Heh, with the touchstrips, I just need that fingerless glove for my left hand (since I'm right handed), I lean on it a lot when typing. BTW, I'm assuming you have an Inuos4 or 5, is that touch wheel a bother to work with? If it's a 5, how about the touch functions? Do they lag? I've read that they do from some people. But then again, it could just be their own computers causing it.
