Hopefully the most important journal I ever write

I have something you need to hear. Please do not click away, because this may be the only chance you can do anything. This is an emergency.

I generally try to avoid posting about politics in my journal these days. The handful of you who have the saintly patience to follow me on Twitter know what I’m about, but outside of the handful of fired shots to scare off the fascists and their cheerleaders, I keep that to my little rant space because that’s not what you follow me for. But, today, I have to speak up, because we’re in mortal danger.

My country, America, is very sick. Four years ago, it made a terrible mistake and has been the victim of brutal violence since then. It could die very soon. It’s not dead yet, though, and with only one treatment, it might survive, but it has to be done now or else the condition is terminal.

A lot of you aren’t going to like it, but I don’t want any arguments. We’re dealing with just the facts now. Every American citizen must do this.

You have to vote for Joe Biden.

Save your arguments; I already heard them all. You don’t like his platform? You don’t have to. You think that he’s just going to be a return to the old normal where we have to do this shit all over again? Probably, but that isn’t an emergency. You question his advanced age and his apparently fading mental acuity? Fair, but we can deal with that later. You think he’s a socialist? Please save the talking points, because this is very serious.

The Republican Administration has been anything but republican the past four years. The whole point of a republic is to prevent the centralization of power in any one person, but the Administration has seen fit to do whatever it wants, sabotage our system of checks and balances whenever it gets is in the way, and its party has done nothing but sit by and tut-tut at him, if that much. The Post Office, the POST OFFICE, that service we all rely and depend on, has been disrupted because the Administration believes the Post Office will be the end of the Administration. This isn’t speculation; the Administration said so, out loud, in front of the whole damn country. The Administration has nothing but contempt for the idea of republicanism, and if it is re-elected this year, it will destroy every last shred of it. You people who puff up your chests and proclaim that “America is not a democracy; it is a republic?” Well, it might not be either unless you step up. This was the very thing our Founding Fathers were afraid of; we’re about to realize their worst nightmare.

I started writing this journal back in the beginning of September, and the information in the previous paragraph already feels like a distant memory. Things have gone from bad to worse to nightmarish in the course of a month. Now that he’s behind in the polls, the Republican Administration has bent over backwards to sabotage the electoral process, from rushing to pack SCOTUS with his picks, to saying he will not acknowledge the results if he loses, to refusing to condemn fascist, white supremacist groups, to just recently recruiting “election obversers.” His supporters have been harassing early voters at voting stations. This is VERY bad, people. I had originally planned to tell you all to make sure your mail-in votes in early, but now I can’t tell you for certain that they won’t all be ruled invalid before Election Day. I’d say get the absentee ballots if you can, but I’m not even sure about those.

This is textbook authoritarianism. This is how authoritarians destroy democracies. This is why you never, ever let them get within smelling distance of positions of power.

It is your patriotic duty to get this trash out of office. You must vote for Biden. No protest votes, no third-party votes, no funny business; this is very serious, and it is not time for bullshit. If the Republican Administration is not defeated in November, I can guarantee you, you will lose more than you can possibly imagine. We’ve already lost so much in the past four years. A lot of people on this site will not be as free to produce content anymore. A lot of us will be too dead or disappeared to even worry about that.

Vote like your lives depend in it, because they do.
