Douglas Adams was a major inspiration for my writing... I would've loved to have met him in person before he died (or rather, got tossed into some alternate dimension, pursued, no doubt, by several Chesterfield sofas across a few intergalactic cricket pitches!), rather than just an exchange or two on his Usenet newsgroup... He was very personable. :)

At least three of my stories show blatant DNA influences- Most notably
"The Imperial Cheese Pickle Factory",
"Croutons..." and
"Curious".
I first read the first three books of the Trilogy back in 1981, not long after the local college radio station played the original BBC radio series. The first TV show I watched on my own TV set was the BBC TV series in 1983, when it was on the local PBS channel.
I still haven't finished "Mostly Harmless", and haven't even started "And Another Thing..." yet.
I presently own all 5 radio series (plus the two Dirk Gently radio series, which somehow get connected to HHGTTG) on CD, as well as both the BBC TV series and movie on DVD.
I'm about to order "Shada", the new, "lost" Dr. Who novel by DNA, even though I'm not into Dr. Who-- It is a Douglas Adams book with all the Douglas Adams humour one would expect. :)
(My anthro Mimzy character from "Curious" is actually inspired by Marvin the Paranoid Android.)
