Streaming comish sketches (thoughts?)

by
I had this dream the other day. I was working at McDonalds in this hot greasy kitchen. My mom was the manager there and about as happy as I was about it. I slaved over this hot stove thinking how much better it would be just doing drawings or painting for a living.

Then I woke up. I hadn't been drawing anything really for almost a week at this point. My subconscious kicked me in one of the best (or worst) ways possible about it too. And the next day, I was talking to an online friend that mentioned another artist doing $10 sketches in every one of his streams for a living. At first I didn't take the idea too seriously, but that damn McDonald's dream was still stuck in my head. Then I thought, hey...I can do sketches fairy quick, why the hell can't I do this too? If it was possible to knock out 6 sketches in one hour at $10 per character....wow. It would be quicker work and I wouldn't have to spend forever on a painting either.

I plan to give this a try when I'm done with my current batch of comishes. What do you guys think?

I approve. I can think of more than one artist I follow who supplement their income that way, and even a couple who've built up enough of a following that they pay the rent. Quick sketches are not one of my natural skills, but if you think you can swing that, by all means have at. ^^

McDonalds was my first real job, and now I do art for a living, so I can certainly reassure you that you should totally do commissions, because art is what you love, and when you do something you love, it never really feels liek a job XD  The only advice I can really give, is to give yourself a bit of a break if it starts to feel too much like work and a job.  Art will always be your passion, but even doing what you love, you'll have your days of needing to step away from the business end of things, and just draw for yourself to clear your head a little.  I wish you the best of luck with everyting Looq, you'll totally rock it! XD
Also, a Sammy pic by you has been on my mind for awhile, so expect a PM in the near future about a commission XD ^_^

Wow, nice!!! Thanks, I'll go easier on myself so as not to become a workaholic XD I used get afraid that if I only did comishes every day that I'd never had time to work on things I cared about. Oh, you liked that Sammy painting eh? ^_^ Let me guess.....you want something with Tails!

Yeah, I tried doing the commission thing for a little, but I really did start to miss the stuff I'm really into XD
I did love that Painting! XD Actually, I was thinking of having you do my character, Sammy XD I'll hit you up when I'm ready ^_^

Hmmm...when Neo deleted all his pix from IB, I saved one more Gadget pic that I'd forgotten about. He only had it on here because it's Gadget-on-Feivel action. I guess I could send you 20 or 30 bucks for coloring it...?

Anyway, I've seen another business model over on FA. It's called "art lessons":

An artist does a stream, just to look at their "students" art. For 50 bucks, anyone can buy a "lesson" from them and be their "student", which means that the artist will look at your art in their stream and tell you in chat for 30 seconds all the things you're doing wrong with it. After the stream, you'll yourself implement the changes demanded by the artist. Repeat it next stream, where the artist will be looking at your "progress", which again costs you 50 bucks per "student".

And that's all what the artist's streams and "lessons" are about, telling people what they're doing wrong, for 50 bucks per stream and "student". People are telling her on her journals that she's selling her "lessons" way too cheap, even!

" I guess I could send you 20 or 30 bucks for coloring it...?

Sorry...I'd really rather not atm. I like doing my own art, not just coloring other people's stuff.

" And that's all what the artist's streams and "lessons" are about, telling people what they're doing wrong, for 50 bucks per stream and "student".

That's...insane. There's no way I could do that to people and be able to sleep at night (lol..or in the day atm).

Dude, totally give it a try at least. Worst that happens is you don't like it and just go back to a more comfortable drawing condition. Best that happens is you love it and make some good scratch!

Thanks weasel ^.^ I figure I really don't have much to lose. I always want more drawing experience and I know furries are always wanting this or that character, so heh, win / win!
