Possibly moving to SubscribeStar

With all the controversy and uncertainty now for content creators over on Patreon, going to give SubscribeStar a try at some point soon. I've already purged my content on patreon and now its all on my discord server.

Yeah from what i heard patreon was bought by this really hoity toity religious group and wants it to be sanctified and clean

Wait Patreon got bought out? and by whom? and what religous group? sounds weird to me...

In any case, maybe it's time Patreon died then. I never had a patreon and I'm glad I didn't. So much for supporting creators.

Patreon is being strung out because they got caught in a legal screwup and are scrambling to save face by appearing innocent.
Jeffron

I know. I also heard they're trying to ban anime art styles. Making up some bullshit and what not. They deserve to get sued for acting like a publisher when they should've been a platform.

I'm not certain, but whatever the case may be they deserve it.

Yes, they deserve the tumblr situation of royally fucking themselves over.

Leaving Patreon under the current circumstances is understandable.

SubscribeStar is a Russian-founded site made to support the alt-right, however, so be wary of that association.

Commiss.io also has a monthly support feature (though it may be disabled atm, I'm not sure) without either controversy, at least not right now.

I can do the commis.io. one question, can I do that with my PayPal card?.
fibs

Commissio currently accepts any debit card. When I had a Paypal card, it was a debit card and worked
Jeffron

Is their any proof that subscribe star is made to support the alt right and made by russia?
fibs
3 years, 8 months ago
I've been told the founder's name is Mikhail Zadvornyy. I cannot find a matching profile for this name; I think there are many men called this, and it may be an alias to begin with.

In its early days - and even before it launched - the alt-right were suddenly and collectively championing Subscribestar. It is clear to me that they were all let in on the project ahead of time.

Even now, the primary force attacking Patreon is a neonazi and his followers:
" Really what he [Hitler] was trying to do was clean Germany, clean it of the parasites, of the fleas. He did not hate Jews. He hated filth and he was trying to clean up.
~Owen Benjamin, Mar 9 2019, Youtube livestream

I am quite certain that, while Patreon has legitimately misstepped, the panic and hatred against it has been fueled by the alt-right in order to promote Subscribestar.

Whatever its other criticisms, Patreon should not be required to be complicit in Nazism.
Jeffron

Isn't it possible that subscribe star's founder may just be Russian by birth, but not nastionality? unless there's evidence that suggests that?

Also isn't also possible that just because some nazi or alt-right might be using subscribe-star that doesn't necessarily mean that the site itself is made to them?

One thing does seem apparent though: Patreon does seem to be less appealing. They're even having a legal battle at the moment. (Personally I'm glad I never got a patreon.)

In what world do you see a Russian-founded site disproportionately advertised by neonazis and show it good faith. Cue Joey meme.

Any one of Subscribestar's red flags is suspicious alone. All of them together is damning. You cannot seriously tell me it is "possible" (i.e. that there's a snowball's chance in hell) that these blatant Nazi callsigns have an innocuous explanation - not all of them altogether, certainly.

There is no healthy reason whatsoever to support Owen Benjamin or praise his predatory legislation in any way. He described the Holocaust as "cleaning Germany of filth". He advocated the return of slavery. He is legally attacking Patreon because it's a rival to Subscribestar (Nazi Patreon) that unwisely left itself vulnerable in this way. He is pretending to be attacking Patreon for all the good little boys and girls who got banned for drawing anime.

And when he succeeds, and everybody has flocked to Subscribestar and Patreon no longer exists, they won't need to pretend to be your friends anymore. They'll ban the gay people first, because that will have the most public support. They'll move on from there.

Save yourself the time and go to Commissio instead. You'll have to do it later anyway.

Firstly: I certainly will disagree with what owen's said. And as another point: I have no plans to get a subscribe star. But you have to admit that Patreon IS acting suspicious. They've been banning people and then changing their ToS. They keep it vague so that they can basically do what they want and it's justified. In fact they're having a legal battle right now, and they're changing it even now so that they cannot be sued. You have to admit THAT is suspicious.
.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96ZhpDEUabM This video gives you a pretty good idea on that.

Assuming what subscribe star's doing is suspicious, fine, I won't be supporting it. However, I feel that: Patreon's actions as "missteps" are kind of underselling what they're doing. With some of the things I've seen people point out: It does sound like Patreon is squishing any and all things they deem unclean. Eventually they'll keep strangling their users until there's nothing left as far as what people can, and cannot do with their art. I'm for free expression, and Patreon is supposed to be a platform, not a publisher.

I won't support subscribstar, tbh I'm not really intending on messing with anything related to these platforms, and DEFINTELY not supporting Patreon. So you don't have to worry jack about me. XD

My Patreon has never made it past like 5 patrons, so I'm not losing much whatever happens to Patreon. I was always expecting them to ban me for some stupid reason or another.

I'm not trying to force anybody to stick to Patreon or forgive them for the fuckups they definitely have done, but many people are just allowing neonazis to include themselves in the "wrongfully banned" group and use the "my friend got banned for anime" crowd to justify themselves and direct everyone to Subscribestar.

If my livelihood depended on Nazis, shit, I'd rather starve. Might be easier for me to say since I'm already doing that, I suppose.

Birtherism
Would never have been put out if Obama wasn't black
Was disproven repeatedly since its conception

Subscribestar is Nazi Patreon
Is actually true and literally all evidence (including basic observation) points to it, what do you need a fucking Death Mark in the sky or do you have an excuse ready for that too
lavafoxx

"Obama wasn't black"
obama isn't black, his biological mother is white.

"literally all evidence.  what do you need"

what evidence? you've supplied no evidence of any kind to support your conspiracy theories.

why would a Russian-founded site be a bad thing?

Also do you know another site that uses a monthly support feature that allows Paypal?

Controversy? How so?
DrReverb

Patreon keeps adding more rules for nsfw art. First they banned loli/shota/cub, then non-con, then inter-species sex. Even short characters get taken down for looking too young. Plus, they're currently being sued.
TheTennytons

is Ko-fi a good alternative?

Ko-fi works only for single-time donations, and exposes both the recipient Paypal address and the details of the person who donates.

well if that is the case. Thanks for the heads up.

I think it's a smart move. Patreon is gradually being more restrictive of NSFW art. Half the people I followed moved there.

good choice. im still not over the fact that patreon tried to claim ownership of slugbox's art content

This was misleading and people taking things ultra literate and out of context as Slug later clarified:

It's a wise idea to have a SubscribeStar just as a backup, operate both simultaneously. So when Patreon hits the crapper you won't be caught with your hands down while existing Patrons won't feel forced to switch over RIGHT NOW when there is still no immediate need to do so.
Folsen
3 years, 8 months ago
Second that, tough there certainly must be other sites mentioned in this thread that take the same approach as ko-fi, Patreon, etc; Of using it only as means for people to more easily get money for their trades.(initially).
I'm sure if you search the internet you will find lot's of other business models that take that exact same approach. Though be being aware that these sites will mainly operate on money, I would recommend reading the guidelines.
Optica

Yep, looks like I'm not the only one making the switch.
