July 4th

by
Im not American but its quite hard to avoid the news. I know it doesn't feel festive stuck home and with turmoil on the streets. So I thought of sharing this from a different yet familiar time.

Things have been very patriotic and festive all day! Don't let the news trick you into thinking it's all gloom and doom over here. Most Americans are still quite proud to live in the most free place on earth.

Thanks for the throwback, and be safe :3

As an American, I thank you. The pandemic we are going through with the rest of the world is a new issue which is highlighting how the ideals of freedom can decay into misguided attitudes of entitlement. I would like to think that there are more of us taking Covid seriously than demanding freedom from having to consider the bigger picture of living in a global community and taking responsibility for considering our friends and neighbors when we consider ourselves. The other issue is so tangled and pervasive that I have a great deal of trouble giving it a graspable title. I settled for an issue of Freedom, and it's lack for so many of us. That problem has roots to our very beginings as a nation and is long overdue for attention. I fear and fully expect that that issue will get worse before it gets better... much worse. I only hope that the new normal will mean much more freedom for a great deal more of America's disenfranchised. Thank you for thinking so well of us despite us being the way we are.

Not sure about any other American's 4th but where I live in FL which is one of the top 3 most infected states in the country, still seen fireworks lighting the skies and people hanging out on their front porches to watch and talk among family and friends. Virus or not, Americans will not let it stop them from celebrating their love of this country.
