"Goodbye Volcano High" and all the hate it's getting is kinda dissapointing.

So the PS5 reveal stream included a trailer for a game called "Goodbye Volcano High". It didn't really show much gameplay but it seemed like an animated choose your own adventure type narrative-focused game. Character designs range from meh to kinda cute. I probably won't play it since I'm usually not into games with more focus on narrative than gameplay. I've got better shit to play.

You can check out the trailer here:

However, it's kinda dissapointing how many people on the internet and in the comment section of the trailer were just super toxic and hatefull about the whole thing.
Mocking shit like "THIS IS THE POWER OF THE PS5!"
Like for real, not every new game has to be a graphical powerhouse.
Just take a look at the dislike bar and comment section of the trailer if you want to see the amount of distain people have towards this game that hasn't even released yet.

And that's not even getting into the fact that people have been calling the lead writer a pedo because she apparently wrote an article for Kotaku about porn that included images of supposedly underage characters from Harry Potter and Pokemon. Honestly that sounds pretty hilarious to me but peple are pissed about it so idk.

But hey, at least that DEMON'S SOULS REMAKE LOOKS GODDAMN AWESOME:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TMs2E6cms4

I thought people were salty because it reminded them of Life is Strange, I agree that it looks like a pretty obscure game to show off at a PS5 presentation, also the stuff that the author did is his own god damn business

I guess but the comparisons to Life is Strange seem out of nowhere to me. The only thing it has in common is the narrative focus and lgbt characters, but you wouldn't be sure about either of those things unless you read the description.

And I'm not sure if that's really "the author's own business" since she published it in a public article on Kotaku. I don't think there was anything really wrong with what she did and mostly just find it funny.

It's sad to see people's reaction to Goodbye Volcano High, the game seems interesting, it really gives off a Life is Strange and Night in the Woods vibe but with dinosaurs. Even my sister who don't like furry thought it looked good, like the character design and wanted to play it. I just have to say that the animation at the start when the two main characters are laughing together and the animation of the background characters in front of the school did looked a bit janky.

To me, most people online are toxic, that's why I keep my interactions with others to a minimum but, while I totally agree with what you say, to be fair this was shown in a Playstation 5 reveal stream, people are expecting the next generation of games to looks amazing and make them feel like the hundreds of dollars they'll spend on that new console will be worth it.

The game is getting hate because it clearly wasn't the place or time to show something like this (also it's furry... and queer / lgbt friendly... and emotional teen drama... which makes it a niche market of an already niche market).

It did helped to show that the PS5 will have a diverse catalog of games, but an animated trailer with no gameplay isn't what peoples want from this kind of event. It would have been shown during a normal developpers conference or during a Nintendo direct, no one would have batted an eye.

I could understand that but I feel like people got their "is this console worth my money" with all of the other graphically impressive trailers. To be mad that a few games are doing something besides "wow amazing graphics" seems really irrational to me. I even thought it was kind of odd to include Volcano High but it was mostly limited to "huh, that's different", but when i look online its mostly pure toxic hate. Maybe I just don't understand how people can get actually mad or go out of their way to ridicule something that is so inconsequential to the entire event.

I'm sad to see the level of hate it's getting.

I'm interested in it. I left my positive comment on the YouTube trailer.
I put it on my Steam Wishlist and checked out all the info on Steam.

I read the writer's apology on Twitter and it just made me sad to see them calling the article they wrote "a grave mistake".

I hope the game makes it out alright and it ends up being a solid "Night In The Woods/Life Is Strange" type game~

I think the actual article she wrote was pretty trash and rather pointless in its conclusion, but I really don't think she needed to apoligize for it. Of course, the amount of people in the comment section harrassing her by equating drawings of fictional characters with "child porn" and calling her a pedophile probably are what caused her to crack and give an apology. It's a shame how an internet mob can basically bully people into apoligizing and potentially changing their behavior even if there wasn't anything wrong with it in the first place.

Never apoligize to the mob, since they won't ever be satisfied anyway.

Gotta admit, I thought the picture of it as a school shooter (note: blood/death, obviously) was a hilarious take on the title.

...come to think of it, it'd probably sell better. 😅

lol that is hilarious, who is the artist?

Not sure. It was linked in a chat, I see this Reddit post but they're probably not the artist - here is a seemingly better-quality version which allegedly came from (presumable 4chan's) "/v/" - but perhaps the thread has been deleted now, I can't seem to find it in search.

I'm honestly keeping my hopes up and think the game will do well, even if people are giving it hate for no reason. Instead of comparing it so hard to something, I'm wating for it to make its own name for itself.

Unfortunately even the subreddit for it is a dumpster fire right now.
Seems like it could have a compelling narrative but there's not a real way to know if its quality until it comes out.
