So i played Minecraft for the first time....

.... man i don't know how long i was playing. Though i was only playing the watered down 360 version as it's all i'm capable of playing, hopefully it'll update to be on par with pc minecraft, with lack of modding capabilities of course. If it can be equal to a modless PC minecraft i'll be happy and have my hours eaten away.

All though it's kinda depressing without anyone else playing, makes you feel alone and kinda claustraphobic when your digging down in a narrow tunnel.

Though I look forward to the many future hours of my life this game with eat.

Congrats on a new addiction, lol. When I first started, I skipped about 3 days of classes, nearly failing one, slept for about an hour a night, and built a mighty empire, all for me. So far, since they added statistics, I've logged over a month of in-game time, with about a year of (real-time) playing before they were added. I've traveled 2500 kilometers, killed tens of thousands of monsters, and built whole cities.

Best 13 bucks I ever spent.

Wat? 13 bucks? Which version did you buy it at?
biggerstaff

About mid-Alpha, just before the big Halloween update. 10 euros comes out to about 13 US bucks.

13 Bucks is actually only around 7-8 Euros, 7 Pounds.

And I bought it at the end of the Beta, even though I've played it since Infdev :3

Well, maybe it was the other way around, whatever. Still the best money I've ever paid for anything.

i wish they'd fix the cpu issue for the pc version, keeps eating at my memory all the time
TachiKusanagi

Does it say that you're out of memory and then it just goes all "Nope, cannot continue anymore"?
Nopast
11 years, 11 months ago
yeah, it says like "not enough virtual space" and checking the task manager it's like 1200 to 1400 for memory

Are you using Java 32-bit or Java 64-bit? That also depends on what operating system you use, but you can use Java 32-bit only on a 64-bit operating system.

Because, if you can run 64-bit applications, then you should get Java 64-bit as well. That will fix most of your problems, most likely.

xp professional sp2

i think i got the 32 bit version since the 64 version either didn't work for me, or just didn't change anything
TachiKusanagi

Huh... Hard to fix, then, but I think there's a way to modify Java to use more RAM. I just forgot where to do that...

thanks for the help though~

I get those errors too occasionally on newer versions. It seems by default that it doesn't allocate as much memory as it should (probably to accommodate machines with less RAM).

You can run it from a bat file like:
"%ProgramFiles%\Java\JRE7\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx1024m -Xms1024m -jar "C:\Users\Me\Desktop\Minecraft\Minecraft.exe"

Change the path to minecraft.exe/javaw.exe and adjust the memory values to your liking (Probably shouldn't run the above on less than 4GB).

i tried that out as well, but even that didn't work =X

tried that again, but still no difference to before, also getting some error message: "Error: -jar requires jar file specification"
TachiKusanagi
11 years, 11 months ago
This line...

-jar "C:\Users\Me\Desktop\Minecraft\Minecraft.exe"

It must be adjusted to where your Minecraft.exe is.

If you have your Minecraft.exe in C:\Minecraft\ then it has to be like this:

-jar "C:\Minecraft\Minecraft.exe"
Nopast

wait, the point "-jar" actually comes right before th pathline for were minecraft is?
TachiKusanagi
11 years, 11 months ago
Yes. "-jar <PATH>" describes where the file is located. Since Minecraft.exe is a .jar in itself (and linked to minecraft.jar) the -jar has to point to that.

i'll have to try that out next time

It can be simplified, too.

If you make a batch-file (a file which ending is .bat - you can easily do that with the text-editor) which reads a bit like that...

"C:\Program Files\Java\JRE7\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx1024m -jar Minecraft.exe

You could save this to the same folder where the Minecraft.exe is. Then you just have to type "-jar Minecraft.exe".

Now, the first part - the path to the javaw.exe - may differ from what Java-version you're using. You should check your Java folder inside Program Files to see which version you have.

okay did that, but, is it normal that it sitll goes up to 1400 - 1600 for memory?
TachiKusanagi
11 years, 11 months ago
That's probably normal now, yes.
That change does allocate more RAM to Minecraft now, so now Minecraft can make use of more RAM, thus making it less likely to run out of memory.

I kinda liked the lonesomeness in the core gameplay. It really gives you a lone survivor feel, though the large, beautiful and -dangerous- world you're exploring can feel a bit bleak.

The only mods you're really missing out on are graphics patches, namley Dokucraft, really, But you're not missing much.

I'm glad you're enjoying the xbox version! I was curious as to how it held up to the PC version. If the Xbox version does have multiplayer i'd really reccomend trying it. Get a bunch of friends online and make your first project building a shared base or town to operate out of. Have fun making it look like a propper town. You'd be amazed some of the projects you can come up with working together with other players. My time in Minecraft SMP is some of the best i've had gaming online :3

i like the idea of the lone survial because the zombies are just undead versions of the base skin making it feel that there were others before you who fell to the harsh enviorment of minecraft.

isn't it $30?

Meh, Notch is thinking about making a new game... Funding it trough MC seems to be the most obvious choice :)
Vinylshadow
11 years, 11 months ago
lower the price: get more players

let's say it was $30 and 1000 people buy it

drop it to $15 and odds are the amount of people who buy it will skyrocket and he'll pull in more money in smaller doses

following your reasoning...realistic games like CoD should be F2P?

okay then
Surge

I... don't even... What is wrong with you?
Sasparillafizz

So, because the graphics are simplified...a game that has sunk hundreds, probably THOUSANDS of hours of work; should be free. Because you find the graphics a bit too simplified. Clearly he should be providing this solely for your enjoyment and get nothing but a sense of satisfaction that people like it; especially after sinking so much of his life and work into its creation.

And you have no idea how hard it is to resist making a serious comment about Call of Duty and 'realistic' being in the same sentence without being ironic. But that is a entirely different subject not worth going into on a artist's journal.
