Art Update Stuff

by
How's things goin' all ? I hope everyone's doing well during this crisis.

I feel like I haven't made an update on what's going on before. I don't wanna feel like I'm just trying to talk about myself ya know? But I feel like I don't give any info and I feel like it makes me seem unreliable cause I know I don't post too often. But I wanna try and change that up a little bit. Most the stuff I post has just been rendered kind of stuff and it's led me to posting pretty infrequently. So, I'm going to start posting more sketch stuff inbetween my bigger pieces when I do them. Think this will also be nice cause it lets me focus more on the foundation of my drawings and not the rendering process.

I hope everyone stays safe during all this stuff and stay healthy. <3

I know how it is to want to polish stuff until it's the best you can be. But hey, if you have extra sketches - you can always put them in scraps if you don't want it in your main gallery. Maybe if you get feedback from that it could help you decide things you want to take further.

And things are going pretty well! My regular medication includes one of the drugs they're testing against COVID, hydroxychloroquine - and I think our family got it already. My mum was ill (not terribly so, but not great) for two weeks; all I got was a tingly nose for a day or so. Lockdown didn't affect me much because well, I do everything at home anyway.

That said, I'm very busy right now! 🤯 I've been tuning the new server to make it as fast as possible given its limitations. The CPU's a quad-core from late 2015 (the same kind Facebook used back then), but as our usual load varies from one to two cores, it works for us - fast storage for the database and thumbnails, lots of space for original files and a good network is more important.

Still, we're parallelizing everything we can - database queries and image scaling goes up to four threads for large operations; PNG size-reduction only uses one, but we do multiple files from different people at once. Database queries for the new recommend-on-+fav feature will be offloaded to our secondary server phagos (which has two quad-core CPUs... from 2011) - but for ideal performance, we have to limit it so it doesn't use two threads on the same core for a particular query. Gets complicated when we want to run two queries at once to make use of hyper-threading. Then there's knobs to tune like "how big does the expected result have to be to try using multiple cores?" Lots of fun... at least if you like repeatedly running database queries to see how fast they go.😼

True that, but I've been trying up a different style that I feel more comfortable with and it's gone well so far, I'm happy to upload stuff like that and plus scrap stuff doesn't see as much views so it's whatever, I hope for them to one day just be a drop in the bucket for pieces I upload! :>

I'm sorry to hear that your family has gotten sick, I hope the was is intended and your mom has gotten better though!

Glad to hear things are still running :D Yeah the inner workings of a database aren't one I got much I can say on it. But sounds like things are going well with it haha
