Been there. Done that...I've seem the times I had 37 cents, or 42 cents, or 29 cents, or 23 cents for the rest of a week. And sometimes that amount going into the following week.
Back during that recession of 1991, at a McDonalds, I noticed some change strewn about near the drive through window. I was broke that day, and I figured there was enough change there to buy a burger and a small fries. When I began picking up the coins off the parking lot, a woman in the drive through window called out at me, "You can't be doing that. At the end of the day, we collect up that change for Ronald McDonald House. You're stealing from the orphans by picking up that change". It was like, "How was I to know?".
