So, it has come to this! Granted, I knew it was coming, but I just finished my last day of work and have hereby been laid off, along with everyone else in the company, until 31st of May. Possibly more, possibly less, depending what happens with the whole pandemic over the next month.
Was hoping I'd be able to avoid it, but it was honestly just wishful thinking. Restaurants and cafes, along with other stores of course, just can't support themselves with a mere 20 customers a day, less than 10% of what it was before the pandemic. At least I'm working for one of the bigger companies in the country, so the lay offs are just temporary, rather than flat out firing people, but I feel for the folks that aren't as lucky.
I am part of the union, so I'll be able to get some money from there. Only like, 2/3 of what I'd make at work, but it's enough to pay the rent and hold me over until I get to return back to work. I actually got lucky on that front, because you have to be part of the union for 26 weeks, before they offer you compensation in case of a lay off... and I joined the union 27 weeks ago. Talk about a lucky break, huh?
That being said tho, will probably have to pause my Patreon pledges and cut back on commissions for the time being. I do have couple that I've already paid for and waiting, but outside those, I won't probably be getting new art until some point in summer. I would try and find myself a temporary job for the meantime, but as is to be expected, no one is hiring right now, so at least for all of April... I'll probably be just hanging out at home, gaming and roleplaying and such, to pass the time.
