NEED HELP! CSP FREEZING! (SOLVED?)

So I've been using Clip Studio Paint for the better part of a year now, but recently it's begun regularly freezing on me.

Example:  I start the program up, it chugs on startup (didn't used to), and it works fine for a little while, but then it suddenly starts freezing up (going into "not responding"), and even turns my whole screen black for a good little bit.  Eventually it gets to the point it freezes up every few strokes (if not every other stroke) of my pen.

I have NO idea what's causing it either, since my internal components haven't changed in a year.  The only thing I can think of is the fact I changed over to Windows 10, but that was about 4-5 months ago, and it's only been doing this since about early November..so about half the time I've had Windows 10, which doesn't make sense.

To help this cry for assistance along, here are the PC specs and version of CSP I use:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 2700X 3.7GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti 8GB
RAM: 16 GBs DDR4 (don't know the clock speed sorry)

CSP v: Clip Studio Paint Pro version 1.8.0 (64 bit)

And yes, this is the ONLY program showing any issues as of late... ;w;

Would really appreciate some assistance on this one!  Thank you in advance!

UPDATE:

The suggestion of "turn off auto save in CSP" seems to have worked, I've also changed the harddrive which it writes temporary files to when running, hoping that'll smooth things out too.

Will keep you all posted if there's still an issue.  THANK YOU AGAIN! ;w;

When the program loads, what does the ram and harddrive usage read at the bottom?
Amuzoreh

There's no reading at the bottom of CSP...but Task Manager puts my RAM at 65% with it open, though it's only taking up 333.8 MB, so not much.

Far as harddrive, I wouldn't know how to get that info.

you could pull up task manager, if you're on Windows 10 the performance tab should have graphs for disk performance.

Do you know if it's autosaving? I remember hearing something about that causing some problems at one point.

I don't know that CSP even does autosaving O.o  Whenever it legit crashes, all work goes with it...

They added a bit ago, I dont remember how exactly it works, but the setting is: File->Preference, then "File" from that side menu, "enable canvas recovery."

Although re-reading your problem, I'm not sure if it's the culprit since it sounds like yours is getting worse as it runs, rather then with a periodic save.

e: Maybe try updating CSP as well, if it's not already up to date?

Well I unchecked that option and so far so good...didn't even know there was an update for auto saving or whatever....

Could be ram failure. It happened to me recently too before I replaced the chips.

My RAM is only a year old though, and it'd impact other operations, wouldn't it?

Ive gotten lemon cards that have died in less than 4 months so its really kind of random.

And it would or wouldnt. The main issue is how heavy of a load on ram the individual apps themselves are. You can mitigate the issue a little if you make your paging file a little bigger or use a portion of your drive as ram probably.

Well, so far someone else's suggestion of turning off "auto save" in the program seems to have fixed whatever was going wrong.

I'm likely to believe that it's been the culprit since the update it rolled out on lines up roughly with the time this started happening for me.

Are you running any overlays or other programs while CSP is running?
Amuzoreh

Yes, but even closing everything doesn't help.

Strange, what about driver updates recently for the likes of Wacom tablets?   Also, try turning off Nivida Shadowplay.
Amuzoreh

I don't have Wacom drivers anymore, so that's not a problem, and I don't think I have Nvidia Shadowplay on.

So far the answer of "try turning off auto save in CSP" has worked.  Time will tell though.

Graca driver? I had this problem NOT to long ago with games and programs like that they just "froze", sound was still playing in the background and i could open my inventory, even if my screen just froze so maybe it was a graca driver and you need to use the older one. it fixed my screen freeze problem at least.

So the issue I'm having is JUST with CSP, nothing else...everything else runs just fine, games n' all. ^.^;

well...did you CHECK your graca driver? did you update it or maybe it updated itself lately? i would check it at least. I also had said problem with 2-3 games, anything else was fine.
Amuzoreh

I have no idea what a graca driver is, but it's definitely not the problem as I have no issues with games at all, just the art program.  And as of the last 2 hours, I've luckily not had any issues with it now. @.@;

But yeah, issue was with the program, not anything else on the PC.

graphic card driver. And as i said, it was "just" on 2-3 games and sure some programs like gimp. But if everything works normal now, you might should still check when the last was installed or updated. Again, newer versions can and sadly tend to fuck up sometimes, mostly if they suddendly have a new overhaul overlay (or hud) like the new AMD driver got for 2020.

How often do you restart your PC? Your computer DOES get sluggish as hell over time because RAM isn't totally released if you close a program.

Do you have a solid state drive or a regular hard disk drive? If it's an HDD then it might be getting full, or it's old and reaching the end of its life and it's taking longer and longer to read and write.

I rarely restart my PC because I'm too lazy to wait for it to boot up when I get up at odd hours (like today-- woke up at 3am)

The boot drive is an SSHD (hybrid drive) and definitely getting up there in years as it's from 2015 when I built this PC, and it's one of the last original parts too.

I have a second harddrive in the computer that's only a year old and doesn't see as many writes to it as the other, so safe to assume it's ok.  I'm pretty sure I need a new boot drive though....definitely an issue there.

Ehh, if it's an SSHD then you shouldn't have too much of an issue. But restarting would definitely help.

Glad you got it fixed! :)
