The Great Character Interview Journal! (originally from FA)

by
ORIGINALLY POSTED ON FA, reposted here for preservation and for any new responses

Earlier this year, there were two character interviews floating about on FA. I had planned on combining the two, as they do ask different questions, although there is some redundancy, but still enough for combining the interviews in toto to keep things interesting. :)

But a friend,
CyberCornEntropic
CyberCornEntropic
, suggested something else, something different-- Letting my +watchers ask questions about my characters TO them, and letting them answer the questions themselves. :) Because of this, as I originally planned on all four of the characters I have character reference files for, I'm only sticking with three, as only three of them have FA accounts at this time-- amystereo , ilenelepti and mimzybunny .

These are the basics, though:
This will be divided into THREE PARTS-- The two interviews in their entirety, minus the original interview rules or where they came from, and lastly, Part Three will be YOUR chance to ask them anything! Part Three essentially REPLACES tagging, so no-one will be tagged... But I DO want to see if anyone will actually be interested in asking my characters anything they wish. :)

And I DO mean ANYTHING! It's COMPLETELY uncensored!

That said, fair warning- Some subject matter may offend some readers!

And lastly, no, they won't remember any of this... Well, Mimzy will, but she won't tell. :)

And now, on with the show... :)

==================================
The complete version, with parts 1 & 2, is posted HERE ->
-- Was too nig to fit entirely in the journal!
==================================
And now that the interviews are over, it's time for....

PART THREE!

Now it's YOUR turn to ask these three anything, and they, themselves, will answer you... So... Go at it!

For the record, here are the questions I asked on your FurAffinity journal.  Obviously, you can cut and paste the answers into your reply, at least to start with. :p

1) If you woke up in a robot body and were given a choice of what sort of alternate mode that body could configure itself into, what would it be? Or, to put it simply, what would you transform into were you a Transformer?

2) You live in a furry analogue of late Medieval/early Renaissance Europe although there is more leeway in female career opportunities than in real life. What are you doing with your life? (Living as part of an all-female band of villagers is allowed although they needn't be stereotypical Amazons.)

3) If you could enter a holodeck and play in any sort of holo-novel you wanted to, what genre would you choose?

4) You're a Lego minifigure. What playset would you build?

5) Which era of Star Trek would you like to live in as a member of (Earth or Federation) Starfleet?

6) If you had the opportunity to ask one question of someone who traveled virtually anywhere through space and time (like the Doctor, as an obvious example, although the choices need not be limited to – nor involve – him), what would it be?

Since I neglected to say I hadn't set up accounts for the three characters here at Inkbunny yet (I don't know what Inkbunny's policies regarding on character accounts are, if they're any different from FA's), these responses will simply be quotes from them here.

Since your sixth question actually was the first, posted before the others, I'm just tacking the responses together, with the last answer unnumbered. And so....

< AmyStereo >

" 1: From what I understand, my body will eventually be like Mimzy's body- an artificial life form-- But not a Transformer. :) Bit I think it's been answered before, for me-- A cute little boombox, the kind one would expect in a young girl's room. :)

2: An inventor. :) I know how to make certain electronics- like radios and transmitters and the like- using ONLY the technology used in those periods, even going back to Roman times. :)

3: Retro sci-fi/space opera. ;) Captain Proton forever! :D

4: Not sure. Mos Eisley from Star Wars, I guess? :)

5: Pre-Kirk, Pike-era, a la "The Cage"/"Menagerie". :)

I would wonder what the world is like after people disappear, or whether we made it to the stars.

< IleneLepti >

" 1: Not sure- A motorcycle, probably?
2: Innkeeper/bardess. :)
3: Something in Colonial New England, maybe?
4: Tatooine? :)
5: TOS. :) Those sexy uniforms! ;)

I would want to know if my family and tribe survived the blast 40 million years ago.

< MimzyBunny >

" 1: I'm already an artificial lifeform-- A robot in all but gears and pulleys and whathaveyou. :) But as a Transformer? A DeLorean? ;)

2: A barkeep. :)

3: For as much as I know, I really haven't had the time to decide what I like, what my tastes are, having only existed for a few weeks. Perhaps something medieval.

4: Probably Mos Eisley.

5: TNG. I could be like Guinan- Om. ;)

I already know, because I have done it. That's why I'm here. :) I am that individual who has traveled through time.

To Ilene: Concerning your coming of age ceremony, what's the details behind it?  What happens during it besides the obvious?   Is it a solemn affair or the equivalent of a Sweet Sixteen party?

Were there other intelligent people in your original time period that you knew of?

(I'll be writing the answer to the first paragraph as a story submission, because it'll be lengthy for a reply, but just as fair warning, there may be TMI involved, but in short, a mix of both. As for the second, I need to do some more research on Eocene mammals of Europe, but as both Paleocene and Eocene eras were were eras of bird domination, don't expect too many mammals mentioned, but one of their primary nemeses was a bird species, and they would've been intelligent in Ilene's era/world.)

After I posted that, I eventually realized you probably would want to write it up into a story so you could go into detail.  At least it'll give you a reason to write something. :p

Concerning To Much Information, I do know that the West and the US in particular is highly repressed sexually, just as you do. :o Some sexual rituals would have American adults who consider themselves open-minded scream bloody murder at the mind-warping naughtiness, yet wouldn't cause other cultures to bat an eye.  Some even thought that a girl who hadn't had at least one sexual encounter before hitting puberty must have something wrong with her.

I have some books on Prehistoric animals.  One is, of course, the tie-in book to the Discovery Channel "Walking with Prehistoric Beasts".  Another is a Smithsonian Handbook field guide Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Life (no room for leptics, unfortunately).  And the third is the Easton Press edition of The Illustrated Encyclopedia of the Prehistoric World (yep, there's a leptic in that one, all right).  And, naturally, there's the internet. :p

Quite correct, concerning the level of detail I'd need to go into to describe Ilene's tribal culture and society, as well as the ritual structure involved. And you're correct-- I do intend on drawing from info I know about tribal cultures primarily from Africa and the Pacific, which you mention quite well. Ilene, for as much as she has adapted extremely well to a modern, Western culture, knows quite well that modern Western society is uneasy with the kind of sexual acceptance that "primitive" societies have, including what she grew up with, and why she understands when Amy finally opens up to her about her "secret shame".

And yes, I'll be looking into Eocene mammals online, since I don't have the above-mentioned books--- Solenodons, while they certainly existed in Ilene's time, as far as I know, were not in Europe, so Ilene and other leptis wouldn't have known about them, but in Amy's world, these would be the oldest-surviving (barely!) sapient mammal species, having a cultural history that make RL aborigines of Australia seem like relative newcomers, being solenodons were around in the age of dinosaurs.

Arab and Middle Eastern culture could get highly frisky too (as you know, more than Muslims and Jews live over there), as could Chinese culture.  I seem to recall once reading about a common "wedding" ritual between Arab fathers and their pre-teen (somewhere around 5 to7 years old, I think) daughters (not really a wedding so much as him consummating the family bonds between himself and her.  We would be screaming "incest" and "pedophilia" and while technically true, it wasn't the entire story.

When the West thinks of pedophilia, we think of pedophiliac rape without the thought that it is possible for an adult to have sex with a child without harming him/her, but it must be done carefully.  In the case of the Arabs, a father who hurt his daughter during this ritual (ie. raping her instead of restraining himself and going at her pace) would be accused of bad parenting because he would be considered ruining the poor girl sexually.  Obviously a bad thing as the girl was supposed to be initiated into enjoying sex, not learning to hate it.

Of course, this assumes I remember what I read correctly or not.

Hm.  Personally, I wouldn't make very many animals in that era sentient, so as to indicate that the diversity common in more modern worlds is a long way off (I have the general idea that the large number of sentients in my Winterfur world was probably artificially inflated; the fault of ancient astronauts, if you will; perhaps mammoths, too).  My leptics are the only sentients in their sphere of influence, although this is most likely deliberate.  I sort of see them having been rescued from extinction on an alternate version of Earth by some equivalent of Star Trek's Preservers and moved through time and space to their own world (or even a ringworld?) where they could develop safely.  This means that I can mix animals from different eras if I so wish. :p

I've heard similar about Pacific island tribal cultures. What you said in the second paragraph is the same as what my psychiatrist/counselor told me as well, that alot of what is pedophilia hasn't been harmful in all cases, but saying this goes against political correctness, so that's why we never hear about them. In time, just as has been done for both gays and transgendered, the myths and shame surrounding it will eventually disappear, but most likely not in my lifetime (as I'll be lucky if my body holds out for another 15 years), and those like me won't have to live in fear or shame. I hope, in some small way, that perhaps my speaking out about it might lead to redemption down the road, even if I may never see it. I'm not going to make it my cause, particularly the dangers involved, presently, but someday, someone will realise that not all those like me are either predatory or willing to commit violent and non-consensual acts, and not all children are innocent of sexuality. Naiive, yes, but not innocent! And the more Society tries to shelter its youth, the more naiive the youth will be in adulthood.

...Er, perhaps I should step off my soapbox and finish up, as well as just write about Ilene's culture. ;)

Lastly, yes- I was thinking along the same lines for Ilene's era, that these would be a few relatively isolated sapient cultures throughout history, prior to the rise of what we consider modern civilisation, or rather, the analogy of same in Amy's world-- The leptis would be long forgotten until fossils were discovered in much more recent times, but the leptis never advanced beyond the same level of certain ancient sub-Saharan African civilisations, even with their own long history. (Not too dissimilar to the ancient Canovians in the GC universe.) Even the Great Birds had their peak, then eventually devolved so the mammals could dominate.

While I'm not one for pedophilia, my main gripe against the anti-pedophiliacs is that they think that blowing a gasket and bringing pain and aberrations will take care of the problem.  Problems can't be solved with threats and punishment.  If they want to "fix" pedophilia, they should see where the causes of the problem lie, especially if the root causes aren't the pedophiles, but themselves.  The chronically outraged typically overlook if not flat-out ignore that the problem they fight against lies not with others but themselves.

My leptics have actually gotten close to what we would consider the modern era, possibly akin to the 1940s or '50s AD.  (I have this oddball idea of them in Floyd Gottfredson's style in a typical (if free from censors) Mickey Mouse-style adventure.)  However, as I said before, this is because the "Preservers" removed them from their Earth before they could go extinct.  Like I said elsewhere (although this is not necessarily so as we both have our own ideas for leptics), one could (maybe, possibly, but not necessarily) consider my leptics as being the descendants of your leptics after they were transported away ala Ilene.  (Again, this is not necessarily so.  As I said above, you've got your own ideas and I've got mine and it's possible in the twain they never will meet.)

The prevailing scientific consensus is that pedophilia has the same genetic disposition as that for homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism, although I think they'll find tinkering with it will have a profoundly negative affect on heterosexuality, since it's the same genetic disposition, as well. The real problem lies in rape, or rather, the genetic confusion that mixes sexuality with aggression, which causes people to take advantage of anyone, sexually, to sate their need to control. Delink that, and alot of sexual tendencies and behaviours take on radically different dynamics.

I'd rather not see anyone's sexuality altered, but if violent/aggressive/dominating tendencies can be genetically abated, it would go a long way towards a healthier sexual environment.

I agree with you about the anti-pedophilia crowd-- Their tactics actually do more harm than protect, and have, in many cases, permanently scarred children who had otherwise had harmless relations. Because of the way the rules and social beliefs are set, even when children have sex with each other- nevermind with adults- there's a desire to punish someone for something that actually has no victim, and usually- most cases, it seems- that even if girls are the dominant/aggressive ones involved, it's the boys that get punished and criminalised. A major reason why I'd like to see statutory rape abolished, because it does far more harm than good.

And I know you're not into pedophilia, but at least I'm glad you're engaging in a civil discussion differing from the usual PC view of the subject. It's refreshing to find someone who is non-judgemental about the subject to discuss it with. More often than not, because of this, I often wish I could just live out the rest of my days in exile, so no-one would ever have to be burdened by this because of my feelings.

As far as our leptis are concerned, I'm comfortable with our worldviews not meshing, but just as fascinated by your world as you seem to be with mine. :) I really am interested in the background of your leptis, because they are different and interesting. :)

You do realise leptictidium  will be a Writing Challenge keyword, right? Just haven't decided when as yet. ;)

I don't think we're going to find the answers to rape or sexuality in our genes.  I understand that many scientists are leaning towards the idea that our default setting is essentially bisexuality and that only through various social conditioning, personal choices, etc., etc., lots of etc., do we swing one way or the other or show interest in whatever we show interest in.  I don't think rape really features into genetics all that much.  We are both Nature and Nurture, getting all smooshed together in a hot and sweaty ménage à trois with Personal Choice, who is pretty much you-know-what-ed silly.

I don't think tinkering with our genes will do a lick of good as the problem seems to lie more on the Nurture side of things.  We are influenced from conception (usually accidentally) by lots of things which the stupid, literalist, survival-at-all-costs part of our mind misinterprets and forms into aberrations (we've all got lots of them, but they can be cleared if one knows how).  In my thoughts, it's quite likely that rapists are unconsciously being influenced by these aberrations.  Clear those aberrations, and the rapist stops wanting to rape.

Personally, I don't really see any reason to get all bent out of shape over your interests.  That would only cause more aberrations and certainly wouldn't "cure" you of anything.  No matter whether your inclinations are from an aberration (actually, I think this makes it sound mean and judgmental; "engram" sounds more neutral in meaning) or from who you really are, the first step towards making things better lies with other people (like myself) stopping wanting to punish and starting wanting to heal and help.

Believe it or not, I've had offers to summon storks with teen girls on Furcadia (I have yet to attract any interest from anyone in real life), but have done my best to dance around an answer so I didn't hurt their feelings.  Would I in real life if given the opportunity?  Probably not, although this is mostly my pessimistically saying that I'd screw things up so that the question becomes moot.

And now, the leptictidium. :p

Yes, I figured you'd want to do leptictidium sometime as a keyword. :p It was always a matter of when, not if.  I'd probably slap something together with my leptics, maybe mature-oriented, maybe not.

I've thought that the CO2 cloud that Ilene was escaping from was just a big glob of toxic gas, but it would make an excellent cover in abducting a whole lot of leptics without disrupting the timestream.  Ilene would simply have been on the fringe of the timewarp and was fumbled into the wrong place and time.  However, one should also realize that I've taken fan concepts of mine and mangled them into something different as I've lately mostly dwelt on "post-abduction" leptics who have have several thousand years to advance in technology.from sticks and sharpened stones to steamships and early planes.  That's a lot of time for cultures to develop and die out.  Yet, by not actually linking our two concepts, we would be free to pursue our own ideas without interfering with the others'.

In any case, my leptics have religious concepts done up in dualities – light, dark; female, male; pleasure, pain; etc.  When dualities are in balance, there is order, which is good.  When they're severely imbalanced, there is chaos and evil.  Unfortunately, this spawned the long-lasting idea that leptics' lives need to be balanced between pleasure and pain.  As the girls had to live with the "pain" of childbirth and child-rearing but the boys only had to worry about the "pleasure" of inseminating them, this meant that boys needed to be ritually punished while the girls were allowed lots of leeway in their fun.

Girls were expected to be bisexual but boys were only supposed to be straight.  Girls were taught not to be ashamed of their bodies, so they normally didn't develop nudity taboos (but they still wore the loincloth thingy because it was the polite thing to do; it was okay to have sex, but not okay to have it at inappropriate times).  Boys, on the other hand, were taught to be ashamed of theirs.  At some times in their history, the boys wore almost as much as orthodox Muslim women, but the boys' crotches could be uncovered without shame when they didn't have to be polite.  As much as a boy "needed" to be punished to even things out, preventing him from enjoying sex basically meant his punishment was pointless, allegedly throwing him towards disorder.

Just as in real life, this lead to lots of abuse which has fortunately mostly died out.  The common religions of their modern era state that pursuing pleasure too much brings pain and that pain, although a normal thing to be borne in life, should be minimized.  As long as the modern male's torso is covered, he's okay although many are pushing the limits of that.  Oddly enough, the girls are starting to wear more clothes because they see them as an easy way to dress up.
