Business is business... name it!

by
Okay so Rally and I are working on opening up a business. It's basically supposed to be a hang out coffee shop, that also sells games and comics. Games range from tabletop RPGs like D&D and Werewolf: The Apocalypse. Also buy/sell video games. Problem is we're still working on a name. And so i decide to push the envelope to you guys. And see if the fandom has any good ideas.

I was thinking of naming it one single word, no prefixes or suffixes. Just a single word that doesn't reference any of our merchandise so as not to presume to one kind of customer to another, but instead to speak about the shop itself, the feeling, the atmosphere, which hopefully will be a casual but not loud. Where we might hold card tournaments on weekends and let people play their tabletop games in a booth or something, we don't want something that's loud or overwhelming to customers who want to just relax. Obviously this will require effort to constantly keep up with roudy gamers but a little energy in a casual environment is nice, i think, seeing people coming and going, talking and having a good time but in unoffensive ways. That is the kind of atmosphere we want so we need a game that speaks to that and a customer age range anywhere from 15 to 40.

So here's your chance to be creative furry people! Let me hear your ideas. Also if you offer a name that we like, we'll use it, so don't get butthurt if we do! Be happy!

We currently are using the name "Wire".

Hey if you are going to stock comics, may I suggest getting in touch with Sean & Andrew Rabbitt at Rabbit Valley Comics www.rabbitvalley.com - they don't just carry furry stuff and they also sell stock to brick-n-mortar stores as well :)

p.s. I love their coffee ;)

Hehe maybe we will try that! I don't know a lot about comics personally. I do want it to be furry/gay friendly, but i wouldn't be selling anything adult there. And i don't think i've ever seen anything from rabbit valley heh

Well, Andrew and Sean are two of the very few furries that I have bothered to meat IRL, and you'll be hard pushed to find 2 nicer guys. But yeah, they sell pritty much any comic you want, from something furry and porny, to things from DC and Marvel

do they have anything original? cause it seems like i could get distribution rights from DC/Marvel without a third party. But if they have Rabbit Valley originals which aren't pornography then i would consider paying for that

Off the top of my head, and not porn, but defiantly gay ... Circles ... is an RV comics exclusive. I think alot of the others drift into nudity etc at some point. Obviously they also carry everything from all the furry publishers too.

*nods* i'll probably try to get about 3 different comics from them. But since i don't want comics to be the big seller i gotta make room for a few others. Then again if it turns out that people are buying our comics a lot hen i'd start expanding the selection. Thanks for the suggestion though, i'll definitely look into it when we start putting out orders

Also, while I think of it ... remember alot of video game sellers don't make money anymore because no one can compete with Steam and PS-store etc ... online sales services are really killing brick-n-mortar video game stores (I looked into starting one 2 years ago)

well i don't need to worry about steam because i don't plan to sell computer games. And a lot of people... a lot, still play on console, so we aren't out of the game yet. Besides, there's ways to compete, there's always a way to compete. And idk the statistics but not a lot of people like that online stuff, and a lot of people complain frequently. So... thanks i guess but lets keep this about the name, and maybe some positive suggestions =p

*points down to name suggestions* ;)

I would say, from personal experience, that a good place to advertise is local collages, universities etc - especially any GBLT groups that they might have. Now yes, this sounds a bit odd because it seems like you're trying to cater to a single crowd, however I can say that the only coffee shop in my town did that and ... well lets say they are the only coffee shop left in town now (ignoring starf**ks, oh wait, we're talking about coffee aren't we) and after 2 moves to larger locations you still have to fight for a table most of the time in there.

Biggest thing I can say is (yeah, I'm a coffee fag) get trained ... a good barista is going to make the world of difference and if you want to get trained cheep ... go have Rally work at aforementioned crappy-mass-marketed coffee house because their product might kinda suck balls BUT their training is ~good~

actually rally did work at starfucks =p and he was a braista and i am using his former experience =p also planned on setting up shop in center city where it's really nice, some trees, cobble streets and temple U =p also has a gay district and we are gay friendly and furry friendly but obviously only appropriate behavior =p

but yeah we are open for everyone not just one community of people but definitely want those groups to feel welcome.

Thanks for your input! Though i don't know if we'll use it because it feels like it refferences games more. And as i said in the journal i'm trying to get a name that references the store in general, an its atmosphere. Still thank you, and sorry ^^

Still game oriented ^^;;;

thought checkpoint seems like a good name. It's not necessarily a game reference and its a single simple word

Hehe x3 like i said in the journal i need something that speaks to the atmosphere, casual yet slightly energetic. I don't want to single out one group of customers or give off the idea that, at first glance, it's just a game store =p
