On BtV: Mobile Crypt

If you're a reader of my comic strip or simply stopped by today, you'd know two things: 1) Today is my birthday. 2) I just released a mobile app for my strip.

Biff the Vampire: Mobile Crypt -> (LinkTastic!)

I know, I know. Why would I, a relative unknown in comics, make a mobile app for his strip? The answer is simple, really. It’s something I’ve wanted for myself for a bit now. Why not share it with the rest of the world, right? = )

Here’s the skinny on the Mobile Crypt:
- ‘The Feed’
It’s simply that. It is a visual link to my site’s RSS feed. If I update in the middle of the day on a day that you wouldn’t think to check the site, it’s now in the palm of your hand.
- Twitter Feeds and Fanpage
If you’re anything like me, you’re following more than just a single person on Twitter and more than a few folks on Facebook. Instead of wading through the cacophony of tweets and status updates, you have them in one place.
- Events
As straightforward list of events powered by Facebook. It’s my solution to the loss of the old calendar of events on the site. Since it’s powered by FB, this means I can drop in my online events as well as any conventions I’ll be hitting up. It can change faster than my old calendar, too.
- “Ask a Vampire”
For all those folks who have been meaning to send an “Ask a Vampire” question but haven’t had the chance. = P

I had been trying to code up a mobile app for myself for a little over a year now with little success. I always figured I’d make a version for everybody but building something that’s cross-platform is a pain; especially for a weak programmer like me. I was having a hell of a time just getting to go on my little Blackberry and Android emulators. I have been playing around with Conduit Mobile’s setup for a few months now and it won the day. Great functionality, cross-platform, all the bugs in their RSS reader that I had issues with had been… a really neat product for a first timer like me.

That’s the real dope on the Mobile Crypt. Try it out for yourself. Give me feedback on it if you wish and I’ll see if I can fix it. The more testing that can be done, the better it can get. Last but not least, a shout out to my readers. You folks have kept me going through some of the craziest of times. Consider this my gift to you on this, my 30th birthday. = )
