Friendly reminder

This is my first journal.
I don't write so many journals, but when I do people die!

I love my fellow artists. Those who do nothing but doodles all day, day dream about characters, stories, pictures. Those who likes to question things, just why is 'this' the way it is, and how is 'that' working?

But just because you can draw, doesn't mean you're doing it right! I am talking about the annoying people that keeps talking about how many drawings they publish (as if we care). For some reason they are under the impression that the louder they speak, the smarter they are. In other words, quantity over quality. I got 200000 drawings in my gallery, but they are all the same! * LE YAWN!*

Some people might think "the more you draw the better you become". Absolutely! But that only applies when you try drawing different things and not the same thing over, and over, and over, AND OVER again!

If you thing this applies to you, you got 2 options. 1- Ximon is an asshole and I can draw the same things over and over because I'm great/misunderstood/untalented/self proclaimed geanius and my artwork (or porn) is actually beyond my time. 2- I think I will try new things. Just because you try to draw something different doesn't mean you have to do uninteresting stuff.

Thanks!

I draw a lot of different things, however I suck at drawing... so I don't post most of my stuff -_-

A matter of perspective. If you draw it's because you like and not because you have to. So that's great :D Maybe you can share some of the things you do. :)

I agree an I know someone like that too. I'm always trying to do new things with my art, otherwise people will just get bored of my stuff and I'll never progress artistically.

That is well. You try different things and you learn from them, and like a muscle it starts to change and grow. :D

I don't think I've ever been associated with a muscle before XS ha ha awesome

I see this alot over on FA. one guy in particular posts literally the exact same picture over and over, just recolored in MSPaint.. think he has something close to a hundred versions now... and the saddest thing is, it looks like something I've seen six year olds draw x.x

Yeah! So sad! It's like they are perfectly happy stuck in the safety zone

I appreciate all kinds of art but if they draw bondage that tends to grab my attention a bit more ^^  But if I see the same kind of art being drawn with no variety, it does get old awfully fast

That's exactly it, and a lot of people seems like they don't mind it. Might as well be somebody eating pizza every single day!

Well bondage has many forms, and quite frankly that theme cant get old.  HOW the person gets bound makes the theme interesting ^^

Where as I see the general conclusion of 'trying new things makes you better', I'd have to disagree. Trying new things does not necessarily make you a 'better artist'. It expanse your repertoire, yes. So if someone is looking for a specific thing you can say "Oh, I think I can do that because of done it before or something close to it."

As I read somesones post above, they said they've tried doing that but they are still bad. That's only a matter of opinion because they are comparing themselves to someone or something else.

So no, it's not branching yourself out that makes you better but repetition that does. But not just any pepitition. The kind that fine tunes a specific thing. Say perspective of buildings or something. If you just try it once or twice then move onto the next thing you're not going to perfect perspective.

Also I'd like to point out, unless you say you are trying to become a better artist, do you need to get better? When people post things on art sites it's for their own satisfaction to be noticed. No matter how you want to deny it, you don't -have- to show your art to the world. Is it so bad that someone wants notice? No one that draws is obligated to 'get better' or be good at it in the first place.

If they want to post the same thing over and over, let them. Just as you have the right to rant about them. If you really want them to be better, give them constructive advise. And by that I mean tell them what they -could- do to make it better, not tell them "oh, this is wrong, change it." that just pisses people off.

Again, I do see people who just art whore, and sometimes I do agree with you. But it's as easy as not watching their art, or better yet if it's here on IB, blocking their username.

TL;DR no one is mandated/obligated to be a better artist. People watch your art because they connect with it, whatever it may be.

Yes I understand what you are saying. I'm more talking about the people drawing the same character, the same set of circumstances, same pose, same thing. Let's imagine you love cars and you like to draw cars. One thing is to draw a mustang over and over again, and another thing is drawing different cars, different models, and maybe go bold and draw them from inside. You don't have to master the Nissan in order to move on to the next model.

You are right and maybe I will go to the artists and say "could you please draw something else other than X please? it's getting old and I think you have more talent than that." Then they will start hating me, but maybe it's a better way than complaining in a journal. Thanks for the comment :)

Telling the artist they could do more with their art would be a good idea, but at the same time off-standish. I suppose if you put in the right words it wouldn't.

But it's good to see you want this person(s) to do better. And you're most welcome. : )

Interesting.
I didn't expect you to take a stand on an issue like this.
What prompted this assertion?

I see a lot of potential wasted, good artists stuck in the old formula and don't want to move. Let's just draw a penis and everybody will fav it.

Well, penises ARE pretty awesome.
But yes, I see what you mean.
