Because some people don't get it.

Apparently people have reading comprehension problems, so I'm going to explain this to them slowly.

This is continued off my last journal. If you don't feel like reading that, it's basically my reasons for why drawing a character with four fingers because you think that loony toons bullshit is awesome is retarded and we should all stop fucking doing it already.

Some people think those cartoons were "creative" and at the time, they were, but how is copying the fuck out of them because of nostalgia bullshit creative? It isn't, and people who copy things because they remember them fondly are doing it for a stupid reason. There is no logic behind nostalgia, it's just another idiotic sentiment human beings have, because human beings are inevitably very stupid creatures.

And by the way, it would be very difficult for a character who's missing a finger to operate some of our inventions, such as musical instruments, but I'll bet my life savings that is never considered when people blindly and arbitrarily design their characters like that. They're too busy pawing off to their childhood to use the other half of their brain.

I put a lot of thought into the way my characters look, it disgusts me that other people won't do the same. I am constantly revising the way my characters look based on how they function, and I've always done this. I seem to be the only person that puts that kind of thought into anything, everyone else is happy to carbon-copy Mickey Mouse and call it a day, without a single legitimate reason behind it.

And if you call that era full of political propaganda and where black and white movies were still a thing the "golden age" you deserve to be punched. There was nothing "golden" about it, this is something old people say because they can't get over the fact that the world moved on without them a long time ago. These are the same kind of people that sit around and moan about how much nicer the world was when they were a kid because they didn't have crime on the farm and they knew everyone around them and why is the world so terrible today and why did their Facebook machine lock up and get a blue screen? Oh my god I hate old people so much, the last thing I want to deal with is a bunch of people my age that act the same damn way.

Edit: Also, I generally get the vibe from these kinds of people that they just don't like anime, usually for reasons I don't understand but which can sometimes be attributed to "It looks too different than what I grew up with" which is just as bad as someone not liking a modern console because it's nothing like an NES.

That is not to say I don't think people have legitimate reasons for not liking anime. Someone I know doesn't like the fact they don't move their chins when they talk and their noses are shaped strangely. I don't have a problem with his assessment of it since he has a specific reason for it that isn't born of this bullshit idea some people have about how their childhood was perfect or whatever.

Using eye and hair color to determine personality is not shallow, it's expressive. My character is white because she's innocent, she has blue eyes because she's young. These make it possible to identify her personality by just looking at her, something you can't do with people in real life. Whenever the appearance is contradictory, it means something for the plot.

Ren & Stimpy was not originally designed for kids, it was designed for college stoners. There is nothing deep or meaningful about it, and cartoons geared for children should not imitate it, and I assume a cartoon is for kids when it's airing at 3PM in the afternoon, or showing new episodes at 8 PM.

There is an overload of ridiculousness in modern cartoons. It's bad enough kids watch live-action shows that star teenagers and play their older brother's rated M games because they think it makes them more mature. They have no moral guidance and they desperately need it or we'll continue to have serious problems in our public schools like bullying. Parents aren't teaching our kids their values and neither are the schools, and kids are more inclined to listen to colorful cartoon characters than old people who force them to sit in a classroom with 20 other people they might like all day anyway. Are you saying that you would prefer kids to get the idea that ugly and unappealing is acceptable behavior, that it's ok to piss around at work and that never learning from life experiences is a good thing? Because that's what it sounds like to me. You'd rather perpetuate the problems with childhood instead of solve them.

No I do not find Lion King appealing, but that's mostly because it ripped off an anime. The creator requested they remake the story of his anime, but they took the contract to make it their own property and screwed the man over. They set a horrible example.

Just "being entertained" is what's wrong with America. Nobody wants to do any real work, or have a passion, they just want to get fat in front of a TV screen. This is why we're so behind other countries, the things around us don't inspire us, we're just a bunch of lazy slobs that crap out shitty media that glorifies our lazy slob lifestyle.

The things that you linked don't tell a story, you just did that to mock these virtues, which are very important. You clearly don't appreciate how important it is for people to finally learn to be good people. We live in an age where we have the potential to make it possible, but we continuously have people like you that would prefer the world to be fucked up ruining the opportunity for us to make any real progress.

Out of curiosity, how many kittens did you kill today? Or did you just laugh at a cartoon about killing kittens with no purpose behind it? Do you find that funny, the idea of murdering people without a purpose hilarious? Why don't you go do it and see how funny it really is.

Just want to throw some weight behind Yarfy's statement that shape is far more important than color when conveying personality, there's a whole theory behind it that animators and illustrators live by: Circles are cute, triangles are aggressive, squares suggest strength, etc. etc. You should read about this stuff, your art might stop sucking!

If there was any truth to what you're saying, everything in black and white would be devoid of personality, which means all Japanese comics are immediately worthless, right? Color suggests mood, not personality. Deliberate use of warm or cool colors can help steer the viewer towards making certain assumptions about a character at a glance, but that's about as far as it goes. It's more relevant for landscape artists than anything. I hope you don't get up in the morning and make a conscious decision to wear red because you think that's going to make people angry or something.
