No, it isn't about Babysitting Cream.
This has been a plan for about half a year now, but my family is moving again. This revelation alone is already pretty big, considering we've lived in this house for close to 8 years now; the longest I've ever lived in one place. We're moving far away from people, to a "quieter" place, and away from the relationships with other people that we've built up over the past decade or so.
More than that, my mom is planning to retire from her job and open up a bakery, partly because she does have a passion for baking and has been making orders for people for a few years now. The other reason, and a far more serious reason, is that her job continues to be downsized, automated and/or outsourced, and has told me that every year, more positions get axed. It's a microcosm of the growing problem with automation and the lack of any real plan to replace those with other, equally well-paying jobs or create a UBI so sudden mass layoffs, which have become more frequent than ever in recent years, doesn't suddenly cut the legs out from under people, namely those who have identified as an x worker their entire working life, and creating an ever tighter bottleneck for the unemployed to try and fight each other to squeeze through.
But that's a different story for another time, and one I've already talked about at length previously. My point is, my mom is trying to buy her younger coworkers some extra time by taking her leave. From there, she'll be starting up her own business that I will inevitably be working for.
The finer details have yet to be ironed out; at the moment, we're trying to get this house cleaned up and put in top shape to be put on the market. In the coming month or two or however long it'll take to get settled in, production on my various projects, including Babysitting Cream, will be slowed a bit (as if they haven't already been stalled because of the announcement), but I'm still determined to see BSC completed soon™, as well as the finale to Fireside Tales and the next project Drake wants to commission me for.
On that note, the move means that generation 4 of my activity as an artist will end and generation 5 begins. Each generation is marked by some big change around me that eventually begins a new way of working and a new mentality that inspires my approach to creating content. I don't want to slow down or quit, of course, but it is important to note how your environment will affect your way of thinking, and in turn, how it affects your output. This is what marks each generation.
So right now, I'm full of anxiety just as I was at the start of this year when the plan was announced, but I can only hope that the coming generation will be better than all the others. Always upwards.
