Sonic Movie: Thoughts & Opinions

Well, it's been a while, but here are my thoughts on the Sonic Movie, the trailer, and everything's that's happened so far...

First off, hearing everything about the movie: who's starring in it, the plot, basically everything before the trailer was seen. My thing is, it's nice to hear about it, but I can't make judgements until I see the trailer and everything in action for myself. The more I heard about the news about the movie, the more I was like, "When Is The Trailer Going To Show?!"

And then, this past week... They showed it.

Now, I won't lie to you... When I saw it... I felt more hype circulating throughout my body than past game announcements. The performances were impressive, making me think we'll see something of an origin tale, pitting Sonic & Eggman/Robotnik against one another for the first time. I like Jim Carrey's version of the Doc as it seems (especially with that quick bit at the end of said trailer) it'll be a slow descent into seeing him as the Eggman/Robotnik we all know and... well, love is a bit of a stretch, caused by the obsession over ol' Blue.

And, of course... the design. Now, this may shock you... but I had no problem with the design. It still looked like Sonic and Ben Schwartz's performance definitely brings the attitude I'm familiar with. I found myself laughing and thinking, "Oh, yeah. That is so Sonic right there." Maybe that's why I wasn't butt hurt over the design. I mean, design changes never bothered me in the past, why would this time be any different? As long as Sonic behaved like Sonic, that's all that matters to me. If they made Sonic act like Shadow or Knuckles, then we'd have problems.

Design changes are not a bad thing. If anything, they show the evolution of the character, showing longevity. I, for one, appreciate stuff like this. Look at the likes of Scooby-Doo, Batman, the Looney Tunes. Shoot, even My Little Pony, for crying out loud... You'd think if they kept the designs of the ponies the same, FIM would be as popular as it is now? Even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who, let's be real, have had some questionable design changes themselves... *coughs* Michael Bay *coughs*

Bottom line, sometimes the appearance isn't everything, as long as the spirit of the character, what makes the character unique, remains. Course, it doesn't matter anyway, as it was announced that they would make changes to the character model for the Sonic Movie. While I commend Paramount for this unique approach, I have concerns that this may end up delaying the movie. And, of course, there are fans who have shown that the current look of Sonic can be adapted into the movie, the problem I see here is that Paramount is trying to please a fanbase who are known for being divided, yet dedicated. It's like the old saying goes: "Try and please everyone and you'll only end up not pleasing anyone."

I only hope things will work out and the movie will be shown in November as planned. The future is never truly guaranteed... I just hope that I'll still be alive, God willing, to see the Sonic Movie when it launches.

In the meantime... What do you think the chances are that there will be an altered version of Gangsta's Paradise for the Sonic Movie? I'm thinking something along the line of Speedster's Paradise. =D

The thing is, when I saw the trailer I saw A LOT of stuff that suggested the makers were actually familiar with the source material.  There's a worm's eye view sequence that looks like it's right out of the opening credits of Sonic Adventure, there are a few callbacks to Sonic X (the "gotta go fast" line, and the mention that Sonic is not from our world but has to save it,) Jim Carrey seems to be delivering a performance of a more manic mad genius than a violent dictator in the making (so more like Robotnik from the Boom or Adventures cartoons, or some of the more lighthearted video games,) the trailer starts in Green Hills (which IS a real place in Nashville Tennessee, but obviously is referencing Green Hill,) and the warp ring is actually right out of the Archie comic book (towards the end they were a common form of fast travel, used most by Dr. Finitevus, though I think they're going to try and link it to special stage rings.)  I also noticed a bunch of little things like Sonic wearing out a bunch of shoes, the speed gun measuring 630 mph (the speed of sound at sea level is 631 mph, which means Sonic was literally running as fast as he could without creating a Sonic Boom) a crackling energy that might be some kind of speed force thing (okay, they got a little Flash stuck in my Sonic but I can roll with it) the robots we see bear a resemblance to the badnik designs from Sonic '06 (which is the only thing I think you'd want to reference from that game,) and FINALLY, if you look at the Robotnik from the very end of the trailer I think he's a different guy from the Robotnik we see for the rest.  Aside from having a bigger mustache and no hair if you look behind him he's surrounded by giant mushrooms, possibly mushroom hill from Sonic & Knuckles?  I think we're going to get a 2 Robotnik team up like we did in Sonic Generations or the season finale of Sonic Boom.

I do like the idea of changing the Sonic model to look more like the iconic design we're used to, but even if he was going to stay looking like this I'd still have confidence that this movie could be good.

Hmmm... I guess that's true, I seen Sonic's personality is in there despites the design, The trailer is not bad, not great but it is ok.
Overall, Jim Carry as Eggman is fitting and ok, Meanwhile Paramount and Sega are trying to fix Sonic's design to make the fans happy over a crap ton of the fans's depiction of Sonic in the Movie and there are fan made pics of Sonic. I think their great, it shows the fans both good and bad are what you said: Dedicated to the Blue Blur, I am a fan but not a huge fan of Sonic, But hey, they had until November this year to fix up Sonic and releasing the movie, If i seen that Sonic is fixed, I'll go and watch the Movie. And I got some things to say: 1.) They put some Lighting effects on Sonic, Even tho he is not the Flash and not as fast as the Flash, but he is faster than the speed of sound, I saw a lot of shoes he had wore and worn out over his running outs, The Cop and Sonic are gonna be buddies as the movie goes on, Dr Eggman in the beginning is kinda like the Coyote chasing Sonic as the Roadrunner. 2.) The Rings that Sonic uses is kinda like the Warp Rings used to fast travel by Dr. Finitevus and the ones to travel to Special Stages in the Games. 3.) At the end, there is Dr eggman as we all know is in some place as the one stage in Sonic and Knuckles.

Well, it's not about changing Sonic's look I'm discussing here, it's just trying not to go bat-shit crazy when said changes do happen.
