Might as well use this as an excuse for a status update.
So I’m a big fan of the rubber hose style of animation and aesthetics (that’s the 30’s style of B&W cartoons for those of you who aren’t aware). Naturally I’m a big fan of Cuphead as well and got really excited to be able to finally play it now that it’s out on the Switch. Been loving it so far, really satisfying gameplay so far. Anyways...
So this dood pops up on my twitter timeline with this little pearl..

Now I know this brand of dumbasses is only after that sweet endorphin rush that comes from getting attention (in whatever form it takes), so I didn’t engage or anything (I didn’t survive 20 years in the furry community without picking up a trick or two), but good grief some of the mental gymnastics that dood did in the replies!
A personal favorite of mine was someone replying to him that he was ignoring the creators intent, to which he replied “Intent is irrelevant, that’s semiotics 101”
No fam, I had semiotics in university (and it was one of the finest teachers I ever had, he both knew his stuff and how to engage the students) and that was never a thing there. In fact the 101 is that you need to have your intent crystal clear in order to know the best way to convey it (I was in communication design).
But HEY, lets play along and say it is.. if intent is not a thing (AKA the whole “death of the artist” BS), then that only leaves interpretation. Now interpretation is always (and only) on the observer side which means in turn... that it’s you (who are making the racism claims) who are interpreting it as racist.
Of course some stuff leaves no room for misinterpretation, burning crosses, hooded figures, fascist iconography all make it pretty clear it’s gonna be a fucked up thing but your original argument was THAT IT DIDN’T HAD ANY TO BEGIN WITH
Fam no way to interpret that other than you projectin’ somethin’ fierce 😂😂
Anyways, had to get that one off my chest, so rant over, on to the lewd status report.
It’s progressing at a fast pace, the first pic is done, did some corrections on the second one including fixing an arm (wasn’t wrong, just made it more easily readable), erased a 6th finger 😂, increased the size of a characters head, added a floppy tongue (always add those) and almost done rendering it in fact! Should have both pics ready next week (gonna have easter lunch with the family follows by DnD with some friends so I’ll prolly crash afterwards and not get much done during the weekend).
