What Holidays do you like other than...?

by
Other than Easter, Xmas, Halloween, and Thanksgiving(US), what holidays do you like or know of?  Can be from any country.

Ones that have interesting celebrations that might be used in a Reese and Lyah's Hyper Holidays type short story?

July 4th... Not so much for the Patriotism but the food and fireworks

I've never been a fan of July 4th.  I call it "Idiots with Explosives day" month. July 4th goes through Mid June through late July with dumb asses setting off fireworks at any hour.

Still, it IS a holiday, so good catch.

Well, my home town has summerween. During the black plague, the city's inhabitants prayed one hot night for a miracle. That miracle came in the shape of a pale horse, dragging a cart behind it.
The city's inhabitants lit the way with candles, while the cart gathered up the corpses littred in the streets.
When the candles burned out, the pale horse left into the night...taking the pestilence with it.

Sounds spooky enough.  How is it celebrated?

Well, on the 15th of august, the city glows with tge light of a million candles, lining the streets and buildings. Every park and square is lit up with ornate patterns. Even the cathedral's inner hall isn't spared.

March 15.  A revolution breaks out in Hungary. The Habsburg rulers are compelled to meet the demands of the Reform party. The hussar horses looks cool

My birthday, the most actually. Its around the end of Feb and usually ends up on the tail end last days of the county fair where friends come along, get stoned, we go on rides, play carny games, eat like we have dual assholes, and watch cars wreck in a demo derby which is my fav part. Party time. :3

Mardi Gras. In France it was all about making crepes (very thin pancake) and having children going door to door wearing disguises to get some money (initially eggs and flour to make crepes).

Commercial interests imported Halloween into France, promoted it for a couple years, and it all but flopped. Sadly Mardi Gras was a collateral victim: nobody does it anymore, I guess it looked redundant with the now defunct Halloween.

Nowadays you get maybe 2-3 kids in the whole day at halloween knocking at your door, from maybe a dozen groups in the past for Mardi Gras. It's all dead, GG.
