The "All is lost!"-moment

Well, that wasn't fun. Had to reboot my entire computer due to some memory error or something like that, and now I've lost most of my programs I use for art (tbh, I only use SAI these days, but it still feels so shitty). I could really use some uplifting words, because my head and body hurt, I feel sick, and just so damn pissed off...fucking technology.

Well, at least I didn't lose all my files. The rebot swiped all the non-standard programs, but it was designed to let me keep the files.

Hmm...that sucks. I would back up all files to a donor drive, thumb drive or in the cloud as a precaution. I'm a tech guy and hard drives do go bad, and windows is full of errors. Programs can be replaced and reinstalled.

If possible I would either get a new hard drive and install a fresh version of windows on it, if its a memory error it maybe due to bad memory or something hardware related. If your not tech savy with hard drives, you can get someone to look at it locally.

I got an external harddrive, if that would work?

Yes. That would work, but Flash Drives / Thumb Drives are a bit more portable as well.

Fuuccck that's awful!

Hey as bad as it was, it could be worse. You were able to salvage your files at least. And hey you could have had everything short circuit and lost everything. Really hope you're able to bounce back and feel better!

If you are on Windows 10 rs5 that was a major glitch. It happened to me. Have you tried a system restore?

I'm on Windows 8.1...

Ahh, hmm. I mean, I would try a restore to the most previous state before you lost those programs. You can always undo it.
