I actually heard one guy, Knight of the Wind, who claims she got the boot because she's redundant. That she's kinda like Big, yet not so bad that it's funny. Well yeah, he's an absolute idiot with an autistic obsession for his pet frog, and hardly does anything other than fishing. But that's what makes him so funny: He's such an obviously poor character that even his voice actor didn't like him. Heck, even SEGA is being blatant about how bad of a character he is. He's so bad he's become a meme, and that's why he still has a spot on the team: He's the perfect comic relief. And as much as I adore Cream for what she is... She's just so boring. She's done a few things of note, like beating Emerl in Sonic Battle, but other than that she's basically just a sweet and innocent little girl, with her main defining characteristic being her pet chao Cheese. :/
