I honestly kind of feel guilty since my journals are almost always downers, especially since they seem to maybe get two people who actually read them at most, but I might as well continue to use them as a sort of sad diary whenever I'm thinking about particularly glum stuff. I've had this on my mind for awhile, and I apologize for being such a bummer, but I want to get it off my chest.
Regarding MLP, you guys know that I have commissioned a small but special group of pictures depicting oversized ponies, and I had a lot of fun thinking of the ideas I wanted to see in them. I got started commissioning pony art relatively late in the series, and I never was very attached to the show itself as I was just the setting in general. So I'm less upset about it ending than I am the fact that it probably means that the fandom will likely shrink quite a bit once things are over, and it'll hurt to see the community fade like that. There's probably no way it'll ever reach the heights of the explosive popularity it had almost instantly when the fandom first started, but even so...
I kind of felt somewhat isolated already because hyper pony stuff is kind of an incredibly small part of it, and I never really interacted with the community at large beyond a close group of friends on a small discord of hyper MLP enthusiasts. Like I've said before, I'd even stopped watching the show past Season 3. There are a few pictures I never got around to posting because I had the urge to continue writing stories to go with them, but doing something like that always felt incredibly daunting and not at all proportional to the results I received. The last time I did a big story and the thing got cross-posted to derpibooru, there were only three comments or so and they were all uniformly bitching about pronoun usage. :/
I feel really sad because I genuinely love this AU I've created and I have fun coming up with stuff about it, but as it stands it feels more and more like it's a solitary bubble of content I alone care about. I don't know what to do.
About two shit, THREE years ago, I had the idea of coming up with my own Mane Six, a small but fun setting in a world of hyperherms that would be influenced by Appalachian culture because it's something that as a local is near and dear to my heart. I threw myself into coming up with a varied group of grrls with interesting backstories and fun talents that reflected the sort of things you might expect of mountain life.
To begin with, though, it was a struggle. I'm notoriously bad at producing art quickly, and I easily get upset when I fail to capitalize on my ideas. The first three pictures were finished somewhat easily, but then there was a long lull in it as I struggled to find the motivation to continue. The longer I went without being able to do something, the less I felt like even bothering, my perfectionist tendencies biting me in the ass. To begin with, I promised myself I didn't want to upload any of them until all six had pictures done, so things are still obviously incomplete...
And now the show is ending, and I feel like I've missed my chance to ever do anything with them, and I'm wondering why I even bothered to begin with.
Hey, just because the show is ending doesn't mean the fandom is. Sure, it's not as popular as it once was, but has that stopped the Transformers (specifically subsets like G1, Beast Wars, and the Unicron Trilogy), Bionicle, or Swat Kats fandoms? Of course not!

Believe it or not, I kept getting people passive-aggressively commenting on the document linked to the derpibooru submission for the better part of a month afterward. x)
