Fixing Nether Matters

As a follow up to my last journal, I started laying out Chapter 4 with the mind of adding borders and found that it's really helped where multiple characters are involved... which lead me to look back through Chapter 3. I was originally just going to leave it as it is and start the new style with Chapter 4, but I can't. I can't leave it as it is, it just annoys me to look at. Especially when I can see a much clearer and interesting way of telling this story.

I look at this comic and just think 'I can do better than this', so I felt like I had two choices. Chalk it up as a learning experience and give up, or fix the whole thing.

So, starting next weekend will be the first revised page. I ended up combining the second panel of last published page, 33, with what was 34 and it just works so much better. I also combined the first panel of page 33 with page 32, and found I could illustrate the flow of the scene without the need of additional dialog.

This will also mean revising previous pages and updating them, so what I plan to do is rather than re-upload everything I'll slowly replace the files with the new ones. Dialog shouldn't change, and I'm going to try and avoid removing pages entirely, which may lead to adding new scenes. With Inkbunny I'll keep the originals and just add the new page version as the primary file.

The current page 33 I'll just move to scraps when the new one is uploaded. I won't upload it to SoFurry though.

This shouldn't affect my upload schedule for new pages, but I'm going to take a more relaxed approach with publishing in the future and just upload them when they're done. This may lead to a few weeks between pages at times... but no more 6 month waiting periods.

Lastly, I'm very open to criticism and feedback, so if anyone feels like giving thoughts on improvements to the flow of specific pages please feel free to share them. Sharing your thoughts and time is greatly appreciated by me.

Go for it, man! I'm sure everyone at one time or another has created something and then went back and changed everything about it when it was done. I know I have done that alot! XD

Plus, I really appreciate how you aren't gonna get rid of the originals but just swap the new ones for the originals. I never really liked when creators revise or remaster a comic or image and then completely scrap the original...

Can't wait to see how it turns out!! ^.^

Mmmm, it's really hard when you've got something so long as well. I'm not even halfway through this story, but I guess deciding to do this now is better before the halfway point...

I don't like the idea of removing older versions of art either, and would only do it if I'd just touched the piece up or fixed a mistake. If anything, I think they should show how the pages have been improved.

Thanks ^.^

Oh no, you fell for the trap! But at the same time your not revising from the very beginning, so it's probably fine.

Well... I'll fix pages right back to the beginning, but only the ones that need it. Some shouldn't need much as I don't want to over-obsess with it.

Here's to hoping you manage to not over obsess over it.

I got some ideas from the two comics you linked, so thank you for that! Going to try other shapes for panels too, with sides at different angles or circular. So far it's feeling like a good fit while keeping some borderless transitions.

Really sounds exciting!!  Go for it  :3  You have great vision (composition) in your head.  I bet you'd be an incredible movie director
