I actually did make the mistake of buying cheap domestic wireless keyboard and mouse set, keyboard halfway works and mouse randomly jumps. Super annoying.

The hilarious thing is that Discord heavily implied they can't look over deleted messages, i.e. not only cub/loli/etc. but actual child porn or any other unwanted content can easily pass through Discord if you just delete the message after sending it.

You believe that shit? I was a Server admin for a mid-sized "chat/message" service, and I can tell you, even if you delete your files, they are still on the server and they can be recovered if the server owner, law enforcement or some other government entity wants it. Only time a file is forever lost is if there is a total storage media failure with 100% data loss and there is no back up of it.

There are messages on AOL's AIM from 1987 that is still on their servers, even though the service has been shut down for a couple years now! Nothing is erased.

That's true for every single other service, yes, and I had presumed it was true for Discord.

However, their update says at one point that deleted messages made it harder if not impossible to investigate harassment reports. If they still have the messages on file, then they're not kept conveniently for use in reconstruction.

Don't believe that. as a Server Admin, I seen and learned that there many Server Admins out there that Do Not Want To Do Their Jobs! They just want to do the minimum and sit on their asses for the rest of the day collecting anywhere fro $35/hr to $175/hr. The data is there, even if you deleted it, some automated CronTab Job backed it up on some back up media within 12 hours of you originally posting it. So if you delete it, you delete the one on your account, not the one on the back up media.

With that in mind, if something were to happen and the company has to go through some legal consul, they will need to find the file in question, that's the job the Server Admin does not want to do, but will be forced to do so. If he sees that you "deleted the file" he can go back and say "the user deleted the file." Most of the time, they can get away with that statement. But if Law enforcement takes the server and the back up media, they will find the back up of the deleted file in the back up media.

So what Discord is saying is a lot of excrement of male bovines. They got your data and nothing outside of a court order will make them say that they do not have it.

For the record: Inkbunny does actually delete files if you remove them, and they should be removed from backups subsequently. If you mark them deleted there's a 90 day period when it's recoverable (this includes account deletions), but after that the file data is removed. We don't have a good reason to pay to store stuff that people don't want us to host.

I came across a furry server a few years that not only allowed cub but(the users were openly admitting to being underage a few were as young as 12 irl) were engaged in NSFW erp. I asked the server owner about this. I was basically told something along the lines of "people lie anyway if you dont like it you can leave" Now this sever was HUGE over 200 members not sure if it stills round but i wouldn't be surprised if that sever is one of the biggest reasons for the sudden change.

It's the current climate right now. This might sound optimistic, but when the winds change, while they won't remove the ban, they'll probably be less motivated to enforce it.

It's the game of CYA. Cover Your Ass, and that is what they are doing. They do not care about you, they do not care about art, all they care about is making money - somehow. And that's why I've had TJA (jabarchives.com) up since 1995, uncensored, and I've never censored an artist... it's supported by alternate means and we own all of our equipment and are on as high a tier provider as possible (we're in the NAP so.. yeah) No bans there :)

The problem doesn't lie with Discord for the most part, this was the only reasonable thing they could have been expected to do in face of the situation. Even if the staff at Discord didn't want this to happen, they had no choice but to cave in to what the public wanted, because it would look very bad in the public eye to do anything that looked like "defending" this type of porn. The main problem is the unnecessary moral outrage over cub porn and false beliefs about it. Too many people believe that cub/loli/shota porn in some way causes harm to real children, the supposed reasons for such usually being something along the lines of "It normalizes the sexualization of children" or "It can be used to groom children." And when these beliefs become popular, things like this start to happen more often. Just recently Reddit did pretty much the same thing Discord did.

First off - the "sexualization" of children is not what leads to them being sexually exploited, it is people's conscious decision to do so. Someone's propensity to pursue real children is not affected by whether or not they consume cub/loli/shota porn, nor does it "give" them an attraction to children that they didn't have previously. And attraction in itself isn't even the problem - I'm sure that just about everyone has at least once been sexually attracted to someone who for any number of reasons they knew would be a bad idea to pursue... so they just didn't pursue them. The exact same thing applies to people attracted to children, they have the capability to choose whether or not to act on their thoughts. Also, many people who enjoy cub/loli/shota porn are not even attracted to real children in the slightest.

About children being groomed via cub/loli/shota porn: Yes, this has unfortunately happened, but you know what else can and has been used to groom children for sexual purposes? Candy, toys, and literally all types of pornography, whether or not it depicts minors. Seems like a good idea and perfectly reasonable decision to ban those things, right? Yeah... no. I see no reason as to why cub/loli/shota should be treated differently from other types of porn, especially because there is no evidence to suggest it is any more useful for grooming than those other things.

I believe that something needs to be done about the outrage against cub/loli/shota porn to prevent the problem from becoming even worse. Now, what exactly should be done about it? I don't know. But, it's clear that the false beliefs are a big part of the problem. So, maybe something along the lines of raising awareness about the actual facts of the matter would be useful.

I gotta be honest here, I understand where others are coming from, don't get me wrong, I like cub. But that's all I like, Cub. Not the "alternative", it's a drawing for heaven's sake! It's doing you no harm and you ban it knowing it will upset people like this?!

For those arguing censorship, it's actually not - same as when FA banned myself and all of the other conservatives.

The First Amendment grants you freedom of speech - you have the right to speak, but not the right to be heard.

As such your freedom of speech ends at my property line and mine ends at your property line.

This means that since Discord is private property that it has it has the right to allow or disallow any sort of speech it wishes.

We must also give them props for being open and honest, unlike FA or Twitter, which lie about their own speech guidelines.

On the other hand, I could easily argue that while they have the right to do it, cub was banned for bad reasons, because it's largely harmless, while you were banned from FA because you're a toxic garbage person and every community is better off without you.
