This means the sexualization of minor ban now extends to non-humanoid animals and mythological creatures as long as they appear to be underage. We’re adding “cub” to the list of categories, after lolicon and shotacon, to our Community Guidelines to clarify that this content is not allowed on Discord.
Not surprised or even necessarily disappointed. I don’t really use discord for porn and I understand that they are a business that have to confront decisions like this eventually. I probably would have banned it too if I was them. I’d also throw out the idea of banning other crime porn such as rape and beastiality just to cover all the bases. Thankfully im not them but I totally understand why they would want to do this.

Honestly, these sites are all starting to go a bit far. In essence they are taking away freedom of speech/art I guess it would be. Honestly, there is nothing wrong with cub art. It is NOT real, it is fictional, it does not represent anything in real life. As long as real child is not involved or depicted in the art then what does it matter. And they are animals, not people. Animals reach sexual maturity at a very young age in some cases. If people don't like it then don't look at it. It is honestly not hurting anyone.
I swear, society is just getting stupider and more ignorant everyday. In a way I am kind of glad I have not brought any children in to this world as it is just going backwards instead of forwards.
It is like spanking your child these days can land you in jail. When I was growing up if you did something bad or wrong then you got a spanking, sometimes with the belt or a wooden spoon. If you swore, you got your mouth washed out with soap. You do that today and it's child abuse. People these days are turning into pansies and can't do anything without their hands being held. Growing up, we got left in the car while the parents ran into the store; do that today and people with call the cops. Playing at the park by yourself with no parents around... unheard of today. Teeter-totters have all but disappeared from playgrounds and so has tether balls.
People are just getting carried away with making lawsuits over something they don't like. And if a website doesn't follow the rest (like sheep) then they get attacked. I'm really not looking forward to what the internet is going to look like in the next 3-5 years... everything is going t be banned because someone, somewhere is offended by it...

Having now actually read the blog post I love how unnecessarily defensive they are leading up to the part about the policy change. They spend so long talking about all the hard and nuanced super grey area decisions they have to make that dont have a clear answer and do actually require an immense amount of thought and care to handle and then they are like yeah this just makes obvious sense and doesn't really require nuance to make this policy change

The problem doesn't lie with Discord for the most part, this was the only reasonable thing they could have been expected to do in face of the situation. Even if the staff at Discord didn't want this to happen, they had no choice but to cave in to what the public wanted, because it would look very bad in the public eye to do anything that looked like "defending" this type of porn. The main problem is the unnecessary moral outrage over cub porn and false beliefs about it. Too many people believe that cub/loli/shota porn in some way causes harm to real children, the supposed reasons for such usually being something along the lines of "It normalizes the sexualization of children" or "It can be used to groom children." And when these beliefs become popular, things like this start to happen more often. Just recently Reddit did pretty much the same thing Discord did.
First off - the "sexualization" of children is not what leads to them being sexually exploited, it is people's conscious decision to do so. Someone's propensity to pursue real children is not affected by whether or not they consume cub/loli/shota porn, nor does it "give" them an attraction to children that they didn't have previously. And attraction in itself isn't even the problem - I'm sure that just about everyone has at least once been sexually attracted to someone who for any number of reasons they knew would be a bad idea to pursue... so they just didn't pursue them. The exact same thing applies to people attracted to children, they have the capability to choose whether or not to act on their thoughts. Also, many people who enjoy cub/loli/shota porn are not even attracted to real children in the slightest.
About children being groomed via cub/loli/shota porn: Yes, this has unfortunately happened, but you know what else can and has been used to groom children for sexual purposes? Candy, toys, and literally all types of pornography, whether or not it depicts minors. Seems like a good idea and perfectly reasonable decision to ban those things, right? Yeah... no. I see no reason as to why cub/loli/shota should be treated differently from other types of porn, especially because there is no evidence to suggest it is any more useful for grooming than those other things.
I believe that something needs to be done about the outrage against cub/loli/shota porn to prevent the problem from becoming even worse. Now, what exactly should be done about it? I don't know. But, it's clear that the false beliefs are a big part of the problem. So, maybe something along the lines of raising awareness about the actual facts of the matter would be useful.

I do not actually agree with you though that cub porn is harmless (though I still support it. hear me out). Yes no actual children are involved in the creation of cub porn and yes those who buy sell trade and consume it are (at least for the most part) consenting adults (and those who are not wouldn't dare admit to being underaged). In a perfect world where everyone could distinguish between fiction and reality the conversation would stop here and everything would be alright. The problem here is it is not a perfect world and there has been and will be many people who cannot make this distinction.
Think about the climate that exists here in IB. The vast majority of porn here has a very warped sense of reality (its fiction its allowed to be warp to appease the creator's fantasies). There are countless picture of cubs who are very sexually knowledgeable even as young as toddlers who are all super happy to be having sex with eachother. And then even worse there are countless pictures of adult characters abusing cubs and and teaching them that its fun and look how much fun we are having. As a fantasy this is also alright. Then after all of that you take the comments into the mix where everyone is trying to act in character and support the theme of the pictures being posted and there is always that one guy that takes makes it creepy by suggesting things like "and then their dad walks in and joins in on the fun"
If this were a perfect world all of this would just be fantasy and we wouldn't have to worry about anything. The problem is this is not a perfect world and there are plenty of people who probably aren't even bad people and might actually be great people who will slip up that one time and be in a situation with a real life kid and try to talk them into doing sexual things not even considering what will happen to them or the child later in life.
The main problem I have with the anti cub mobs out there are that they make having an interest in cub porn (something you cant control if you have) VERY UNSAFE. Nobody here who is into cub porn is going to want to admit it to their real life friends their family or anyone else they know outside of the community. The only people anyone here is willing to talk to about the subject is the community.
In spite of all this I am not against cub art in the slightest. Everyone has their fantasies and no fantasy is any worse than another. I do think people here should be aware of and consider the consequences of a community like this and its porn though. Since we can't show our face outside of the community and since the angry anti cub people have already written us off as criminals we need to look out for eachother to make sure we all understand the difference between fiction and reality.
It takes only one stupid mistake from any of us otherwise good people to mess up some kids life. Since the rest of the world doesn't support us we need to make sure we are there for are friends and give each other reality checks every so often so one one fuck up their life or the lives of any children out there.

The sad thing about all this is I can see Inkbunny being soon to follow. Two or three years from now at the outside, they'll be forced to follow the same precedent set by so many others, and either have to purge the site of all cub artwork, or otherwise shut down the entire site.
