- She joined the Cearnach military at a young age and she has spent most of her life as a soldier. She was very successful at it and achieved the rank of general at the age of 24 thanks to her remarkably good grasp of tactics. Unfortunately this earned her the resentment of a lot of her fellow soldiers, who accused her of being promoted only because of her affair with the king of Cearnach.
- More than her military achievements, Deirdre is perhaps best known for her one time affair with Connor Cearnach, the king of the fox kingdom of Cearnach. Though they never wed, because of Connor's betrothal via arranged marriage to another, they loved each other dearly and even produced a daughter. This child would grow up to inherit her father's kingdom.
- Years later, even after Connor's marriage and his death in combat, Deirdre still loves him. She will brook no insult to her former love.
- She has an older sister named Maura she is close with. It was because Maura was crippled in an attack on her family's caravan that prompted Deirdre to become a soldier in the first place. Deirdre feels tremendous guilt, to this day, that she wasn't able to protect her sister.
- Her relationship with her daughter is somewhat atypical. Though they love each other the same as any family, Ciara treats her with a familiarity that seems more fitting for friends, or perhaps siblings. They argue continually, though it has become something of a game between the two of them, and any outsider seeking to take sides is in for a nasty surprise. This familiar has its roots in the fact that, the morning of Ciara's twelfth birthday, her parents sent her into protective exile to spare her from a nasty siege that signaled the end of a protracted war. Afterward, both Deirdre and Connor assumed the other would go and collect their child, leaving Ciara to fend for herself for the best part of the next decade. Though Ciara has forgiven her parents for this oversight, it has permanently colored their relationship from that day forward.
- In common with her mythical namesake, Deirdre was once considered the most beautiful vixen in the world, or at least in her native country. She neither sought out this attention, nor found it flattering, and she fought back by wearing her scars earned in battle like medals and by adopting the habit of hacking her hair short with a dagger, leaving it looking rather ragged and unkempt at even the best of times. Even so, she has had no shortage of amorous attention from people of all sexes, and she hasn't always refused, either.
- She enjoys singing and is particularly fond of bawdy songs, the ruder the better.
- Much like her daughter, she has quite the taste for cute rabbits, and she has, relatively recently, entered into a somewhat open relationship with a beautiful rabbit doe of her very own.
She's a handful to say the least. But never fear. She might be rough around the edges, but she does her best to do what's right, as she understands it, and she's quite soft hearted under all that crusty exterior. And if worse comes to worse, you can always sic her daughter on her. Her sense of duty means she must obey her queen, even if she's the one who raised the girl.
As for the singing, I think she'd be delighted to have a willing audience. Most people avoid her singing, so I think she'd be touched.

Aw, thanks. I'm quite fond of her, myself, and she's a lucky, lucky gal to look so damn perky at her age, too! She'd be delighted to hear you say such sweet things, too. As would Ciara, for that matter. No matter how much they might argue sometimes, she adores her mother very much.
It is quite a feat. Now I wish, to quote Major General Stanley, I knew more of tactics than a novice in a nunnery, so I could write her more convincingly. Ah well. Most of the fight scenes I've written have been from other characters' points of view, so I can cheat just a little.
I haven't seen that film. One to look up, I imagine.
