Time setting

Hi. When I was about to make a Rougamy story based on Princess and the Frog called "Hedgehog Princess and the Frog" I know the movie takes place in about 1910s-1920s in New Orleans. I felt a hard decision what timeline will it be in my story. Well, certainly not in the 2010s! Should I make the story take place in the 1980s or 1990s? Or same time as the original movie? I though it would be original that I'd put the beginning of the story in about a kindergarten. I wasn't so sure kindergartens existed in the 1910s-1920s.

Kindergartens date back to 1800's
So the 20's would be a fitting age
plus, as it was implied, in the movie, Tiana's dad died in world war 1
So, you could also have Amy's dad die on the same war

Thanks. You know why I put Rouge as Naveen?

Plus I like the idea of Monica having a widowed father who is about 6-7 years younger than her late mother.
