So... I Am Become Spotted Skunk

So this is really interesting... I have a fursona:

It's interesting because I never really cared to have a fursona. But, now that I have one... I really like it.

Let me back up a step or two, though.

So, I've been a furry for a really long time (at least 9 years as I'm sure a few of you know), but never did this kinda thing. Sure, I've RPed, and stuff like that, but never straight-up as myself.

Sure, a little bit of me is mixed in what composes all of my characters. But this one is... Not just a character. This is me.

So, I thought it might be interesting to sort of go a bit into my experience and background of how this came to be and how I feel about it.

AS I said before a fursona was not something I ever even considered. I had a few reasons, which aren't in any particular order but they all combined to mean I never even thought about it:

Firstly, didn't have a way to comfortably commission. So, even if I did have a care for one, probably wouldn't have been able to do it.

Secondly, I didn't really... Know how to put "me" into a character. I know how to mix a piece of myself with other things to compose a character; I can do that in my sleep. Hell, I literally have on a couple occasions. That's easy. But one that's supposed to reflect me? That was a little intimidating, and goes hand-in-hand with the next reason.

Lastly, I didn't have an animal I really felt fit. I like lots of animals, but it was still difficult to find one that sort of fit "me." Not my ideal self, but "me," or close to it. I didn't necessarily want a unique animal, like one that's uncommon, I just wanted one that "fit" me. Lots of people know I like bunnies, and red pandas, and such, so often the suggestion was to have me be a bunny and then put the infinity symbol on my forehead... I didn't like that either. I didn't want the thing to define my fursona to be the lemniscate. I wanted those to go hand-in-hand, or even to not have a lemniscate included at all.

Well, really quickly things started to fall into place. First, found a way that I'm comfortable commissioning.

Then... I came across this goofball dork of an animal: the spotted skunk. I saw a gif of it doing a handstand, and I was like, "this doofus is me." Plus, the markings could blend in the lemniscate, to satisfy anyone that wanted it there considering my namesake, but it's not the defining feature. If anything, that's Norville (my tail), but that the lemniscate is integrated with the design, and that it works realistically and fantastically (to the artist's credit for doing such an awesome job), makes it all the better to me.

But what I wasn't expecting was how attached I was going to be to it, at all, let alone how quickly. It was pretty much right away when I got the first stage of it. Ideas started happening, more than I had already had, and it felt fun. If you asked me even a month ago if I would have felt attached to my fursona, I would have said "Nah, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be."

So, I'm actually really surprised. It's exciting, and also kinda nerve-wracking. But feels fun. My friend put a lot of work into it, and love the design; it's absolutely perfect to me.

So yeah, that's me. Plain and simple, I guess. It'll probably take me a while to get used to it >.<;

I guess if you have any questions or anything, you can ask on either of the ref pages or here.

Cool. And I like the look of him.

It will be interesting to see what else you do with him.

Me, I never fully stuck with just one as of yet. But I do have the one I am most associated with, and is the one I have done more with. That being Glen Fox Hawkins. He was my first. But I felt he didn't fully fit me as an individual, and that is why I made the others.

This year I intend to do more with the others, and introduce them a bit more. Kind of like my own inner cast of fursonas, representing the different sides of me.

Unlike your skunk, my group is more like those you made for your stories. Each of the six have a little of me in each, but not one represented me as one individual. I do have one like that, not of the other six, and I intend to flesh that one out this year also. ^.^

Once I bring the last one out, that one will be replacing Glen Fox as my usually seen fursona. This one will be rather unusual, just like me. ^.^

Oh' and it is nice to see you finally have one you feel is you. That image you had as an avatar was neat to see, and was unique. But personalty, I like seeing Lemmy Niscuit instead. That's my take on it anyway.

Sky is my Ideal self.
the only doubt I had about him was when I was trying to choose between Dragon and Raptor.

im very glad I chose dragon because I would hate to be forced to wear feathers x.x bleh!!

I also focused his origin story to reflect how I joined the fandom in the first place. Via the transformation sub-community.
instead of being like every other stereotypical fur and giving my character a tragic backstory. I gave him one with special meaning

also. putting myself into my dragon. is automatic. I cannot act worth a damn so when I am Sky online.... I AM Sky. our personalities are the same since I cant emulate anything with a worse moral code than my own. not even in pretend.
